Ask:
1. What is presented in the pictures?
2. Is their a forces acting on the pictures?
B. Exploration
Materials:
Blocks of wood
Sandpaper
A tiled or linoleum covered floor
Procedure:
1. Rub the palm of your hands briskly. Then put your palm on
your cheeks.
2. Cover the blocks of wood with sandpaper. Rub them briskly
for a minute. Listen to the sound made. Then touch its
surface.
3. Walk the barefoot on unpolished tiled or linoleum-covered
floor. Apply some floorwax on the floor then scrub it. Walk
barefoot on the floor again.
Questions:
1. How do the palms of your hands feel after rubbing
them briskly?
2. What sounds do the blocks of wood make? How do
they feel after rubbing them together
3. What is the effect of applying floorwax on the floor?
Can you walk better shiny floor? Why?
18
C. Explanation
1. What force makes your hands feel after rubbing them briskly?
2. What forces makes sounds of the blocks of wood after rubbing
them together?
3. What force makes the floor shiny after applying floor wax?
4. What force keeps the air balloon from dropping fast to the floor?
D. Elaboration
What is your conclusion while doing this activity?
Ask:
1. What is the important role of friction on the movement of
different objects?
2. Can we survive without friction? Why?
E. Evaluation
True or False

different objects.
Ask:
Activity 1
Role Playing
Produce an advertisement or slogan to show the usefulness of
friction in some commercial products.
20
Activity 2
Using the venn diagram, compare the following objects on how can
they be useful and harmful.
Do’s Don’ts
Lubricant Oil
Floor wax
Cooking Oil
Activity 3
Pupils will interview their parents on ways how friction affects different
object to move and then present to the class.(pre assigned)
Activity 4
Choose one harmful object caused by friction and make a news report
about this.
C. Explanation
1. How did you find the activity?
2. What did you do to come up with your answer?
3. What are the harmful / useful objects caused by friction that is
found at home?
4. Where do you use these materials?
D. Elaboration
Let the pupils watch a video about the useful and harmful effects of
friction on the movement of different objects.
Guide Questions:
What should we observed in demonstrating how friction affect
movements of different objects?
E.Evaluation:
Choose one on the following statement below and explain your answer.

2. Motorists should be more cautious in driving after a slight
drizzle or during a rainy day.
3. It is difficult to open tightly covered bottle with wet hands.
4. The usefulness of machine parts depends on the materials
they are made from and how they will fit together.
5. A boy on a skateboard must control his speed as he goes
down a busy street.
