The above headline is what
Brian “Auzzy” Austin, owner of
Auzzy’s Cook Shack and Catering,
proclaimed when he popped in to
BS Central yesterday.
He was excited to report that he
is the proud new owner of a piece
of property sold to him by the VFW
Fort Peck Post #3107 in Glasgow,
future home of his meat processing
shop and a burger dive (name yet to
be decided upon).

business as she’s worked at the
former meat shop that Auzzy used
to rent as well as the cook shack and

food catering venture.
As in the past, the heart beat of the new meat shop
will be processing wild game, but as time allows the
plan is to cut beef and hogs.
“When I get ready to retire in three or three-and-
a-half years it will become a full-time gig,” Auzzy said.
“There’s a shortage of butchers in the area right now.
Everybody is looking for processors to cut their meat.”
And hopefully, the way the Covid 19 has affected
the food chain, it was writing on the wall that there are
some things that desperately need to be changed — less
regulated if you will. And it could lead to getting through
some governmental “red tape” to open the market up on
a local level, i.e., his shop could turn into a meat market
where you can buy burger, steaks and pork chops just as
you would at Reynolds or Albertsons.
Auzzy pointed out that it would not only be
beneficial for the consumers, it would also be a huge
plus for our local ranchers by cutting out all the “middle
men”, a win-win situation for the local community and
economy. Plus you’d be getting the unmatched quality
of LOCALLY raised beef, pork and lamb.
There is some government funding available for
this very purpose in which they are looking into. But
Uncle Sam’s help or not, they’ll be working out of the
shop this fall as the demand for not only wild game
processing but ranchers’ products here is huge.
As far as the burger dive goes, it is looking like
that will be on the back burner until some time next
summer, and Jenny will likely be managing that.
It’s rather interesting how he actually came across
this piece of property.
“There’s really not much land available along
Highway 2 with access to sewer and water,” he explained,
“I’ve seen this property sitting here and I stopped by the
VFW one night to inquire about it and they said they
had never really thought about selling it.”
But both parties got the ball rolling and after a
couple of months of going through the hoops, the land
deed was officially signed this week. It is being financed
through the Bank of Glasgow.
Along with continuing the cook shack and catering
service, “I’ve wanted a burger dive for years,” Auzzy said,
“it’s been a dream of mine to own a brick building. You
pay your taxes, and you do your own thing. I’m going to
make that dream come true.”
Auzzy stopped in to inform us that Darrell Carney
started digging dirt to set forms for the concrete this
morning. “We WILL be cutting meat this fall.”

Sit down, grab a beer, put your
feet up and your thinking cap on. Here
we go on another trip down the political rabbit hole.
These days the crazies are wanting our freedom of
speech and our guns and ammo. If they would just wait
a bit our congress would lay it all in their lap as they’ve
done with so many things in the past.
Here’s what I’m telling you today and it is fact not
fiction.
We all know that you have to prove, among a myriad
other things, you are over age 21 to purchase any kind
of firearm. We all know that if a kid wants to join up in
the military he/she can enlist with parental consent at
the age of 17. There he/she will be indoctrinated in the
use of a firearm but still can’t go out and buy a Glock
or a shoot-gun of any type. The government will buy
one for him/her. (Somebody please make up a gender-
neutral name so I can quit saying “he/she, him/her” or
some other idiotic something that designates a male or
female).
But back on track again.
Here’s the the rub....one can’t purchase guns
or ammo until you’re 21 years old but...BUT in our
insanely insane political climate some mindless idiots
in congress declared that although one can’t purchase
guns and ammo because they aren’t old enough or they
might be looney it’s OK for that same possibly nutsy
person to readily obtain a concealed carry permit to
carry a hidden weapon they weren’t allowed to purchase
in the first place. What? Yikes! You can’t buy a gun
because you aren’t old enough but Grannie can buy a
gun and give it to you and you can carry it concealed....
legally. I’m not easily confusicated but this just doesn’t
make sense.
This is a long subject with a lot of twists and turns
but in the interest of brevity I’m going to make it short.
There are 49 different rules and laws in Montana
Code Anodated 2019 that govern the purchase, carry
and use of a firearm. Like the above, none of them make
much sense and some are down-right ambiguous like
a story that leaves you hanging over the cliff without a
net. MTA 45-8-351 says any one over fourteen years old
can “open carry” as long as there is a parent or guardian
present. (Ok knock it off! If you are an adult over 18 you
don’t need mommy or daddy present to carry!) The teen
can’t take the firearm to school, church, the mall or to
AA meetings. He/she just has to wait seven years before
she/he can buy a firearm.
Don’t worry you guys and gals who aren’t 21 but
have jumped through the hoops and got a concealed
carry permit, you are “grandfathered-in.” I’m afraid
that if someone in congress sees this they might try to
change the law. But, I guess, it’s not to worry because I
don’t think any of my 43.9 readers are in government.
You guys are too smart for that. I do, however send an
e-mail to each of our Senators and Gianforte as well. But
then again not to worry because they most like don’t
ever get the opportunity to actually read the articles.
Some minion in their office in charge of spam will
short-stop the stories denying the congressman of the
pure pleasure of reading this drivel!
In closing let me remind you that our First and
Second Amendments are in jeopardy. If you want to
talk about the guns you own then the right thing to do
is to make sure President Trump makes it to the White
House again.
