This is gonna be
some wedding!
It was at some hotel bar in
Georgia during Kevin Taylor’s rodeo
days around 2000, and there was a
band named the Hooplas playing.
And it was a rock-n-roll band,
a pretty darn good one at that, but
at every break, Kevin would yell out,
“Play some Merle Haggert!”
Another break, and Kevin
barks at the band, Merle Haggert!”
“You know me, I get to drinkin’
and I can’t keep my mouth shut,”
Kevin openly admits.
Well, after the third or fourth
time of directing the Hooplas to do
a little Merle Haggert, one of the
band leaders, Jody Abernathy, came
over to Kevin and told him they
are a rock-n-roll band, but name a
Merle Haggert song and they would
sing it word for word, rock-n-roll
style.
“Oh, you gotta be (BSing) me,”
was Kevin’s reply. But he gave them a
Merle Haggert song suggestion and
true to Jody’s word, The Hooplas
belted it out word for word, rock-
n-roll style, much to the crowd’s
delight who were dancing, and
continued somewhere inside Across the Wide’s lead vocalist Jody Abernathy

FWP to host open house in Glasgow
In the coming weeks, anglers will have several
opportunities to comment on fishing regulation
proposals for the 2023/24 regulation booklet.
FWP Region 6 will host a public meeting in
Glasgow on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the FWP Headquarters
Quonset conference room beginning at 5 p.m.
These proposed changes to fishing regulations
were developed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
staff after working with the public on identifying what
changes were needed in the current regulations. In
all, 42 proposals from across the state will be out for
public comment through Sept. 22. The proposals can
be reviewed online at https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/
public-comment-opportunities.
Final Fish & Wildlife Commission action on the
upcoming fishing regulations will occur at the Oct. 20
meeting. Comments can be submitted online at https://

FWP recently adopted a new fishing regulation
process, moving from a four-year cycle to a two-year
cycle. As part of the new process, FWP solicited ideas
from the public on what regulation changes to consider.
The 42 proposals cover a broad range of regulations.
A few proposals that would affect eastern Montana
include:
• Open snagging for paddlefish on the Missouri River
from Fort Peck Dam to the North Dakota state line
seven days a week, from May 15-June 30 unless closed
earlier by FWP. Currently, the lower Missouri follows
the same regulations as the Yellowstone.
• The addition of a bowfishing season for Chinook
salmon on Fort Peck Reservoir from Oct. 1-15.
• Allowing Home Run Pond in Glasgow to be open to
all anglers. Currently it is only open for youth ages 14
and younger.
• Prohibit paddlefish angling in the new Yellowstone
River Intake bypass channel to avoid impacting pallid
sturgeon movement around the dam.

A Poopsie-Pugh View
This was the beautiful scene on the evening of
Friday, September 9th at around 8:00 near Fort
Peck as Doreen Pugh was cruising up the road to
the Fort Peck Marina. As the full moon closest to the
autumnal equinox, this is the Harvest Moon. The
first known written use of this name in the English
language (per the Oxford English Dictionary) was
in 1706. During the fall harvest season farmers
sometimes need to work late into the night by
moonlight (especially before the introduction of
artificial lights). Other European names for this
full moon are the Fruit Moon, as a number of
fruits ripen as the end of summer approaches,
and the Barley Moon, from the harvesting and
threshing of barley. The Maine Farmer’s Almanac
first published Native American names for the
full moons in the 1930s and these names have
become widely known and used. According to
this almanac, as the full moon in September, the
Algonquin tribes in what is now the northeastern

Now, I am wondering, because Covid 19 is just
the flu, why the big ta do about Monkey Pox? The next
planned-demic?
Google ‘Monkey Pox’. You need to know the
main way it is spread and how long it has been around.
(Definitely not new and I am not comfortable putting
the spreading info here.)
With that info, my question is this. Why are so
many millions of doses of a vaccine available? How
long has this ‘pandemic’ been planned? It is obvious
the Monkey Pox vaccine, like the Covid vaccine, has
been pre-manufactured prior to letting the virus loose.
Why do we need another distraction?
Please research the disease and do not rush to get
another jab. The last jab has harmed so many people
that we know right here in Valley County. Covid should
have taught us to research and make a decision based
on our personal lifestyle, not a political decision based
on our party affiliation.
I, for one, am tired of politicians telling me what to
do! I had been under the impression that those people
work for me via votes garnered, legally. At this point in
time, evil, lying puppets are in charge. God help us!

“Guess what?” he said, “You’re coming to
Glasgow!”
Many years later and true to their word once again,
Jody and Mark will be flying in from Georgia to play!
The celebration actually gets started a day early as
they’ll perform both Friday night and after the wedding
on Saturday as Kevin & Latosha are getting hitched on
their recently acquired spread.

Scotties split weekend matches

After two weekends of tournament play the
Glasgow Scotties dove head first into District 2B action,
cominf away with a split, losing to rival Malta Friday
night and defeating Harlem the following night.
Glasgow (1-1) hosted the M-ettes with hopes of
getting a win. The Scotties started out with a 25-13 win
in the first set. Then the wheels fell off as Malta rallied to
win the next three games, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-22.
First-year coach Brooke Martin saids her girls
smoked Malta in the first set.
“It was such a bummer because that first game they
played, it was almost flawless. Everything we worked
on during the week, was working,” said Martin. “Malta
made some adjustments. I think they have nine seniors,
so they have that experience of being in big emotional
games. Our girls don’t have that built up yet. I looked at
the stats after the game and (Malta) had 10 points off of
bad serves and rotation violations. Lots of silly, fixable
errors. Even if we fixed half of them it would have been
a difference in those other two games.”
Athletes tend to get frustrated when they see points
going on the board for the other team. And, the Scotties
saw that happening quite a few times.
“As far a talent and effort, the girls are right there
with Malta. But they just couldn’t put that complete
game together,” said Martin. “The regular season doesn’t
matter much, just as long as we have their number at
tournament time.”
Remember, last season the Scotties beat Malta
twice during the regular season and at the district
tournament. At the state tournament in loser out action
it was the M-ettes winning. This season the district
championship could come down to Glasgow and Malta
battling it out again.
Daley Aune led the Scotties with 13 of 14 assists
and 6 of 10 aces. Tatum Nyquist had 9 of 19 kills, Aya
Lloyd 4 of 18 blocks, and Carly Nelson and Samantha
Tryan 14 each of 34 digs.
Saturday night the Scotties swept Harlem on the
Wildcats floor, 25-13, 25-8 and 25-15. The Wildcats
lost Taya Trottier, who is in Havre where she will play
college hoops for MSU-Northern. Trottier was the
Wildcats superstar.
“They lost a couple of seniors that were really
good. They do have a couple that I was watching during
warmups,” Martin said. “Their setter is pretty decent.
My hitters blocked so well that it got into their heads.
(Harlem) was swinging at us at first, but then they
started tipping and were trying to hit over the top of
our block. My middles really stepped up and got into
Harlem’s head a little. That helped us.”
Aune finished with 10 assists, 5 digs, 2 aces, 2
blocks and a kill. Macy Martin 2 assists, 2 digs and an
ace, Nyquist 6 digs, 2 aces and 2 kills, Nelson 5 digs and
4 kills, Lloyd 4 blocks and 4 kills, Piper Johnson 6 kills,
4 blocks and a dig, Tryan 10 digs, a kill and an ace.
Glasgow had 29 digs, 18 kills, 10 blocks, 13 assists
and 5 aces.
The action doesn’t get any easier as the Scotties will
play three matches. Thursday night the Scotties host
Fairview in conference play. The Warriors are new to the
league, having moved up to Class B after spending years
in Class C. The Warriors were in B when the Scotties
moved down to B from A.
Friday night the Scotties are in Plentywood for a
non-conference match. The Wildcats are usually a top-
notch program. However, North Country did beat the
Wildcats last week. Then Saturday the Scotties are in
Poplar for 2B action against the Indians.
If you can’t make it to the two road matches, then
tune into Nemont.TV for all of the action. You can also
go online to watch the action.
“Fairview has a really good program. Their setter
looks like she is tall and they have a really good blocker
so we’ll have to be ready for that,” said Martin.
“Plentywood runs a 6-2 and they have a hitter that
looks like she’s really good. The gal they have set, swings
outside a little bit. A couple of them can serve well.”
Martin noted that all of the matches will be a
challenge. Hopefully the Scotties can come out of the
weekend with three wins.
