The Cardiac Kids

Putting in some time during the off-season are the
Nashua Porcupines who competed in the Cardiac
Hoops Tournament in Glendive. They wrapped up
the tournament on Sunday afternoon as tourney
champs! Pictured from left are Coach Dale Pugh,
Damon Adkins, Caden Laumeyer, Grady Nielsen,
Jackson Abern, Charley Kaasa, Blake Bleazard
and Joe Morgan. Back row are Noah Leckie, Bubba
Pugh and Coach Travis Nielsen. Their hearts were
pumping with pride as were the parents and fans
who made the trek. The Porcupines lost some
great seniors to graduation, but they’ve got a great
core coming back and they’re taking their hoops
seriously. They’ll once again be a fun team to
watch, and look for them to make a good run come
tournament time in 2024.

Reds earn split with Mavs

The 2023 American Legion baseball season is in full
swing and the Glasgow Reds have been busy. Saturday
the local boys split with the Miles City Mavericks at Bill
Connors Field at Sullivan Park. Then on Sunday the Reds
were in Cowtown where they were swept by Miles City.
Rance Rhodes had the Mavericks number for six
innings before giving up four runs. The Reds had built an
8-0 lead in the first game Saturday. Rhodes fanned seven
batters and walked two. He gave up six hits.
The Reds (5-5, 3-3) broke a scoreless tie in the
bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs. They added three
more in the sixth. Aiden Price led the fifth off with a walk
and scored on an error. Then after Juliun Benson struck
out, Mason Hunter and Jack Kolstad walked and Rhodes
was nit by a pitch to load the bases. Tatum Hansen’s single
scored two more runs. Another two runs would come
across the plate.
In the sixth, the Reds had the bases loaded when Beau
Malnaa walked, Benson singled, and Hunter walked. After
Kolstad flew out, Rhodes and Hansen scored a run each
when they were hit by a pitch. JT Sprague walked to score
the third run.
Logan Muri led the top of the seventh off with a double,
Ion Zook singled, then Ryan Gentry’s sacrifice scored
Muri. CJ Lang’s triple would clear the bases before Pierce
grounded out to end the game.
Benson led the Reds offense, going 2 for 3. Hansen and
Jordan Plummer had a hit each. Sprague drew four walks.
Muri led the Mavs, going 2 for 3.
Miles City pulled out the second game, winning 12-10
in eight innings. The Mavs jumped on Reds pitcher Mason
Hunter in the first frame, scoring five runs. The Mavs had
three straight hits rto load the bases. Muri cleared the bags
with his triple to right field. Zook’s double to right field
brought home Muri. Gentry Holman’s one-out hit scored
the fifth run.
Glasgow answered with four runs in the bottom of
the frame. Hansen’s double, Plummer and Malnaa had a

Both teams scored twice in the second inning,
followed by a scoreless frame. The Reds took a 9-7 lead
in the fourth with Sprague’s double and Plummer’s single
scoring three runs.
The Mavs pushed three runs across the plate in the
sixth for a 10-9 lead. Glasgow had three errors. The Reds
tried the game with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Sprague’s double scored the run.
The seventh inning was silent, but the Mavs plated
two runs on Logan Brabant’s double in the eighth to win
the game. Rhodes had a double in the bottom half but was
caught in a double play for the three outs. Kolstad had
grounded out to lead off.
Hunter fanned six Mavs in five and two/thirds
innings. Benson finished the game on the hill. Sprague was
2 for 2, Hansen and Plummer 2 for 3, Rhodes 1 for 5, and
Malnaa 1 for 3.
Muri’s bat was hot, going 4 for 4, Zook was 4 for 5.
Miles City swept the Reds Sunday, 14-4 and 16-6. Kolstad
started on the mound in the first game and Price in the
second. Benson was 4 for 4 in the first contest.
Glasgow opened the season at the Watford City
Tournament, going 2 for 2. They defeated Williston 8-4,
lost to Billings Upper Deck 10-2, beat Froid 3-0 and lost to
Watford City 9-1.
The Reds swept Glendive, 21-5 and 9-5. Malnaa and
Plummer got the wins. Benson had an RBI double in the
fourth inning where the Reds scored 10 runs. They also
had 10 runs in the first frame.
