Detailed Lesson Plan

T.V.L. – IA – Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Grade 9 – SERINITY&SINCERITY
March 1, 2019, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

I. Objectives:
During the two hour learning session, the students should be able to;
1. Understand the knowledge and skills in observing proper welding in
overhead position (4F)
2. Apply the proper technique in welding carbon steel in overhead fillet
position (4F)
3. Appreciate the importance in observing proper welding technique in
carbon steel in overhead fillet position (4F)
(TLE_IAAW9-12FW-IIIa-IVj-4)
Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the concepts
and underlying principles in SMAW.
Performance Standard:
The learners independently performs Shielded Metal Arc
Welding (SMAW) based on market standard.
Learning Competency:
LO2. Weld carbon steel plates in overhead position (4F).
2.1 Perform stringer or layered beads in accordance in with
welding standard.

II. Subject Matter:

Content: Welding Techniques and Procedures
Lesson: Perform Fillet Weld on Carbon Steel Plates (4F)
References: CG SMAW NC-II, CBLM 9 Pages 93-99, DLHTM: 10.1 Tourism and
Industry
Materials: Laptop, Power Point Presentation, eraser, chalk, Monitor
III. Procedure:
a. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance.
3. Review from the previous discussion
4. Motivation
Present to the class a picture of the Wawa Bridge of Liloan, Southern
Leyte.
Let the students answer the following questions below:
* Is there anybody here have not yet passed through our Wawa Bridge?
* the bridge is made up mostly on what materials?
* What do you think is the significance of constructing the bridge?
* What are the Possible welding position being used in constructing the
Wawa bridge?

b. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
In creating the Lilo Wawa Bridge there are many welding position
being used by the welders. First, the Flat Position (1F), Second, the
Horizontal Position (2F), Third is the Vertical Position (3F). Today we
will be learning the Overhead Position in fillet welding also known as
(4F). Before we will weld, we should know what are the materials,
tools and equipment to be used in welding 4F.

You have now the materials, tools & equipment needed in welding 4F.
The next important thing to know is the procedure. I have here the
procedure in welding 4F. (Teacher will flash on the board the
procedure and let the student explain each procedure, refer attached
sheet on the procedure)

So these are the materials needed in welding 4F: (Teacher will discuss
with the students the materials, tools & equipment.)

This time I am going to group you into two, each group will have to
write the materials, tools & equipment need in welding overhead
position. I will give each group 10 minutes for the activity and after let
somebody from the group present your group output. (Teacher will
assists each group in their presentation, thanks the students on their
effort.)

Is there any clarifications, questions on the material, tools &

equipment and the procedure in welding 4F?

2. Analysis
Why we should know the materials needed in welding 4F?
Why we should know the tools & equipment in welding 4F?
Why is it important to follow the procedure in welding 4F?

3. Abstraction
If you are not preparing the materials in welding 4F, what can
possibly happened? So what will you do?

If you are not preparing the tools & equipment in welding 4F, what
could possibly happened? So what will you do?

If you are not following the procedure in welding 4F, what could
possibly happened? So what will you do?
4. Application
So, having heard, learned, discussed and understand about the
materials, tools & equipment and the procedure in welding 4F,
what will you do when you are ask to do weld particularly 4F?

c. Generalization
We must prepare the materials, tools & equipment and the procedure
In welding 4F to develop the skill in welding.
d. Values Integration
Preparing the materials, tools & equipment and following the
procedure
will develop the welder’s discipline, patience in doing welding works.

IV. Evaluation/Assessment:
Essay:
Why is it important to follow the procedure in welding 4F?

Those who have the materials, the metal and electrodes, you can now proceed
to
our practice weld. Be sure to observe the safety measures in welding.

V. Assignment:
For tomorrow, bring with you your own 6013 electrode at least 2 pieces for our
practice welding on overhead position (4F).

VI. Reflections:
No. of learners within mastery level: ____
No. of learners needing remediation/Reinforcement: ____

Action taken:
Practice welding 4F will be done by pair with a performer and a challenger.

Strategies for the students to learn:

Gather and keep the cellphones of the students on the teacher’s table and
return them before the end of class.

Letting the students do the most talking/explanations, allowing them

Illustrate/draw their understanding on the board with the teacher’s guiding
questions.

Asks support from the Department Head, school Principal to support the
students welding practice in 4F. Most students are not financially able to buy
electrodes and 5.00 worth of electrodes equivalent to 2 pcs everyday could be a
burden for them.
