Project Charter

Wilmont’s Pharmacy Drone Delivery System

11 August 2020

Project Description Wilmont’s Pharmacy, one of the top-ranked retail pharmacy in the US, is considering
delivering prescriptions by flying drones. DroneTech Engineering will provide drone
technology as well as the drone piloting and delivery systems but will customize its systems,
interfaces, and business process to conform to Wilmont’s requirements.
Project Purpose The purpose of the project is to design and build a prototype drone that will successfully
deliver prescriptions and other drugstore items to Wilmont’s customers in a safely and
reliable manner. The first successful drone delivery will take place no later than November
30. The successful execution of this project might be the beginning of a long-term
relationship with Wilmont’s.
Scope/Boundaries DroneTech will handle piloting the drones and delivery of the products. DroneTech will also
be responsible for the design of the software systems (desktop, mobile app, etc.) to handle
order entry, register Wilmont's customers willingness to drone delivery, communicating with
customers about deliveries (electronically through email, online, and through mobile alerts
as the customer requests), and delivery confirmation. These processes will be customized
to interface to Wilmont’s Information Systems. DroneTech will need to allocate a total of 4
new drones for this prototype project, and these will need to be painted in the Wilmont’s
corporate colors and logo. DroneTech will also design and implement a temperature‐
controlled product bagging system along with a bubble‐type cushioning system for the
customer delivery packaging to ensure that certain temperature‐sensitive or breakable items
are not affected by the delivery process. The project will be limited to the San Francisco
area. The project will be implemented in four stores. Customers in apartment buildings will
not be permitted in the prototype due to delivery issues.
Requirements DroneTech will handle piloting the drones and delivery of the products.
DroneTech will also be responsible for the design of the software systems for the project.
These software systems will be customized to interface to Wilmont’s Information Systems.
These software systems should be able to:
• Handle order entry.
• Register Wilmont’s customers willingness to have their order delivered by flying drone.
• Communicate with Wilmont’s customers electronically through email, online, and
through mobile alerts as the customer requests.
DroneTech will need to allocate a total of 4 new drones for this prototype project, and these
will need to be painted in the Wilmont’s corporate colors and logo. DroneTech will also
design and implement a temperature‐controlled product bagging system along with a
bubble‐type cushioning system for the customer delivery packaging to ensure that certain
temperature‐sensitive or breakable items are not affected by the delivery process.
Deliverables/Objective Deliverables/Objective Success Criteria
Successful drone delivery of prescriptions First successful delivery flight no later than
and other drugstore items to Wilmont’s November 30. Drones should safely and
customers. reliably deliver order items to customers.

Assumptions and Assumptions:
constraints • DroneTech will supply four (4) drones for the prototype project.
• DroneTech will be responsible for the drones’ maintenance and repair parts during the
execution of the project. DroneTech will not be responsible for any maintenance or
repairs after the completion of the project.
• DroneTech will be responsible for the maintenance of the software system during the
execution of the project. DroneTech will not be responsible for any maintenance or after
the completion of the project.

Constraints:
• First delivery flight should take place no later than November 30.
• The project will be limited to the San Francisco area.
• The project implementation will be limited to four (4) stores.
• Customers in apartment buildings will not be permitted in the prototype due to delivery
issues.
• Budget should not exceed $1.750.000.
Risks • Assigned funds might not be sufficient to cover all project expenses.
• Project execution might take longer than expected, thus missing deadlines (first
customer delivery flight no later than November 30).
• Compromising Wilmont’s Pharmacy information system.
