a cycloconverter is a direct-frequency changer that converts ac power

at one frequency to ac power at another frequency by ac–ac
conversion
generally output frequencies are limited (fraction of the source
frequency)
e.g. ac motor drives rated upto 15000 kW, 0 to 20 Hz
inverter-fed ac motor drives are taking over cyclo-converter-fed drives
