1.0 Introduction

As stated in the construction drawings, surcharging work is required to carry out for five type
soil treatment as following table for 9 months surcharging period with 1m surcharge height.

2.0WORK PROCEDURES

- Two nos settlement gauges as per Fig 1.0 shall be fabricated.


- The settlement gauges shall be installed at chainnage 228.50 and chainnage 222.30 prior
to start earthfilling with approved borrow pit sample.
- The surcharge height is specified 0m, thus the embankment shall be constructed to the
final road level and left standing for 3 months.
- The embankment fill shall be constructed at a rate of not more than 600mm thick per
week. During embankment fill, compaction is required for every 300mm of fill.
- Joint measurement of settlement and fill level shall be taken at least once every day while
the fill is being placed. Thereafter, readings shall be taken fortnightly for 3 months.
- Upon 3 months of surcharging period, the embankment shall be trimmed to final
formation level of subgrade.
- Then proceed with construct sub-base and road-base.
- Stages of surcharging are summarized as per Fig 2.0.
