work in a safe manner both to prevent personal injury to themselves or to other personnel.

(Amendment) Regulations 2006” to inform the employer of any circumstances that may indicate any
shortcomings in this assessment.

Ladders will only be used for gaining
access to scaffold; all work will be carried
out from the scaffold. Daily safety checks
will be carried out on the scaffold by a
competent person.
All staff must wear approved safety
harnesses attached to secure safety lines
whilst working at height.
All staff are competent and experienced;
will not work within 2 metres of an
unprotected edge and will be attached to
fall arrest systems at all times whilst
working on roofs.
All working at height will be properly
planned, organised and supervised; only
competent members of staff will be
allowed to work at height.
The supervisor will carry out a risk
assessment before allowing work
at height and will put in place equipment
and measures to prevent falls occurring.
Where the supervisor cannot eliminate the
risk of a fall he will put in place measures
and equipment to minimise the distance
and consequences of a fall, should one
occur.
All company work at height equipment will
be inspected on a regular basis and any
damaged equipment will be withdrawn
from service immediately.
Fall restraints and safety netting should
only be considered as a last resort if other
safety equipment cannot be used.
Provision of temporary edge protection to
BSEN 13374 is provided where practical.
Fall restraint systems are provided where
practical and suitable rescue plans for the
equipment used are available at all times.

Where fragile material is restricted to a

scaffolding, staging or other protective
devices.
Consideration shall be given to the use of

Tower Scaffold will be erected by
competent contractors; using either
the Advanced guard rail method or the
through the trap door method of erection.
An initial inspection and thereafter daily
visual safety checks will be carried out on
the tower scaffold by the site foreman or
competent person. Full inspections shall
take place every 7 days.
The area below scaffold where other
person may be liable to walk will be
marked out with warning tape or barriers,
and persons prevented from travelling
across the danger area.
All staff required to work on tower scaffold
are competent, experienced and have
received training.
Where the risk of a fall cannot be
eliminated the site manager will ensure
suitable measures are in place to minimise
the distance and consequences of a fall.
The supervisor will ensure that the
stabilising riggers are fully deployed before
allowing access to the tower.
Toe boards and guard rails are provided at
the suitable heights (Toe board 150mm,
intermediate guard rail 470mm and the
top guard rail 950mm.)
Suitable access is to be provided inside the
tower.
