Narrator(Shiela): Ang La Liga Filipina ay isang samahan na itinatag ni Jose Rizal at binubuo

ito ng mga taong nagnanais na maputol ang pang-aapi ng mga Kastila sa mga Pilipino. Ang
pangunahing layunin nito ay maging malaya ang Pilipinas sa España sa mapayapang paraan.
Ngunit nang dahil sa kanyang pagka huli ay tumagal lamang ito ng tatlong araw. Inilathala sa
Gaceta De Manila ang pagkakadakip kay Jose Rizal na nagdulot ng kaguluhan at pagkagalit ng
maraming Pilipino. Sa lungsod ng Dapitan ipinatapon ng pamahalaang Espanyol si Rizal upang
pigilin ang lumalakas na paghihimagsik ng mga Pilipino laban sa pamahalaan. Nagpatayo ng
paaralan at ospital si Rizal sa lugar kung saan siya ipinatapon at ang kanyang ina na si Teodora
at mga kapatid na si Maria at Narcisa ay dumadalaw minsan sa kanya upang mapawi ang
kanyang kalungkutan. Sa panahong iyon ay muli niyang inoperahan ang mata ng kanyang ina
sa ika- tatlong pagkakataon.

SCENE 1

Manuela Orlac(ypon): Dr. Rizal, ako po si Manuela Orlac at sila naman ang aking mga
kasama. Nagkakilala kami sa Maynila, at nabalitaan nilang narito ang iyong klinika sa Dapitan
kaya dinala ko sila rito.

George Taufer (aira): Dr. Rizal, I’m George Taufer. As you I can see I’m blind and I wish I will
be able to see. We heard your fame as an eye surgeon, so I sold everything I had in HongKong
and came looking for you here in the Philippines. Anyway this is my daughter, Josephine
Bracken.
(Inumpisahan ng obserbahan ni Rizal si George Taufer.)
(Pagkatapos obserbahan)

Jose Riza(john)l: You are still under observation, so I need to keep you here for few more
days. I have a house next door for patients coming outside Dapitan.

George Taufer(Aira): Thank you Dr. Rizal.

Jose Rizal: You are remarkably beautiful Miss Bracken.

Josephine Bracken(obcial): You are too kind, Dr. but please call me Josephine.
Jose Rizal: I am just being honest Josephine.
Josephine Bracken: You surely know how to make every girl turn to you. Here we are. Good
day to you Dr. Rizal.

Jose Rizal: Good day to you. I’ll see you some other time.
(Nagkitang muli si Bracken at Rizal)
Josephine Bracken: (tahimik at parang may prinoproblema)

Jose Rizal: Is there something bothering you?

Josephine Bracken: You know what Dr. Rizal, you are so lucky that even you were in exile
you have your family and friends. While I only have a sick old man, which is not my real father
that I must care for. By the way, when will you operate his eyes?

Jose Rizal: I can’t. It’s too late now. He is already blind. (malungkot niyang sabi)
Josephine Bracken: Then it is time for us to go now.
Jose Rizal: No----wait, Josephine I have something I must say to you.

Josephine Bracken: I’m going back to Hongkong with my father. I can’t let him go alone. He
was the one who adopted and took care of me.

Jose Rizal: I understand. Are you coming back?

Josephine Bracken: I don’t know. (malungkot niyang sabi)
Jose Rizal: It’s okay, I understand. You must go with him.
NARRATOR: Nguni hindi sumama si Josephine sa kanyang ama pabalik ng Hongkong at siya
ay bumalik sa Dapitan.

Jose Rizal: You came back.

Josephine Bracken: Yes, because I love you.

NARRATOR: Lumipas ang ilang araw at maraming Pilipino ang may balak na maghimagsik
laban sa pamahalaang Espanyol.

SCENE 2
(Dumating si Monsignor Nozaleda sa opisina ni Heneral Ramon Blanco, habang pinag-aaralan
kasama ang ibang opisyales kung paano masugpo ang nangyayaring rebolusyon.)

Nozaleda(EDEN): ¡Debes eliminar a José Rizal mientras haya tiempo! (You must eliminate
Jose Rizal while there is time!) (galit)

Ramon Blanco(Begs): No hay pruebas suficientes de que sea responsable de esta rebelión.

Nozaleda: Haz lo que te dije o te enfrentarás a las consecuencias.(Do as I told you or else

NARRATOR: (augusto labingwalong siyamnapu't anim– Dahil sa pagbabanta ni arsobispo

bernadino Nozaleda, si Gobernador Heneral Ramon Blanco ay nagbigay ng liham ng
rekomendasyon galling sa ministro na nagsasaad na si Rizal ay maaring maglingkod bilang
doctor sa Cuba. Gayunpaman, sa kanyang pagpunta sa Cuba, ang kapitan ng barko ay
nakatanggap ng isang utos mula sa Ministro na arestuhin at ikulong siya sa kanyang kabin.
Nang dumating ang barko sa Barcelona noong ikaanim ng Oktubre inilipat siya sa Montjuich
Castle. Ilang araw ang lumipas at ibinalik siya sa Maynila at ikinulong sa Fort Santiago. Sa mga

Colonel Francisco Oliver: ¿Conoces Bonifacio? ¿El fundador de Katipunan? ¿No se
conocieron ustedes dos en una reunión secreta en la casa de Doroteo Ongjungco? (Do you
know Bonifacio? The Founder of Katipunan? Didn’t you two met in a secret meeting at

Jose Rizal: No es un secreto, coronel. Si esto es un secreto, ¿cómo lo supiste? (It is not a
secret, Colonel. If this is a secret, how did you know?)

Colonel Francisco Oliver: Es porque nadie puede ocultarle secretos a España (It is
because no one can ever keep secrets from Espanya)

Jose Rizal: No tengo nada que ver con sus acusaciones, señor. (I have nothing to do
with your accusations Senor.)
Colonel Francisco Oliver: Si realmente no conoces a Bonifacio, ¡¿cómo es que Katipunan
muestra tu nombre y fotografía ?! ( If you really don’t know Bonifacio, how come that the
Katipunan displays your name and photograph?!)

Jose Rizal: No lo sé. Coronel, puedo garantizarle que no tuve nada que ver con esto. (I don’t
know. Colonel, I can guarantee you that I had nothing to do with this.)

Colonel Francisco Oliver: ¿Es usted un traidor, Dr. Rizal?(Are you a traitor, Dr. Rizal?)
(pause ng sandali ) ¿Eres un traidor como el Padre Burgos? ¿Recuerdas que le dedicaste tu
novela? (Are you a traitor like Padre Burgos? Do you remember that you dedicated your
novel to him?)

NARRATOR : Ang imbestigasyon ay patuloy na pinangunahan ni Koronel Olive Garcia at

pagkatapos ay ipinadala kay Gobernador-Heneral Ramon Blanco na humirang kay Kapitan
Rafael Dominguez bilang Hukom na Tagataguyod upang suriin ang kaso. Agad na gumawa si
Dominguez ng isang maikling buod ng mga singil laban sa akusado at ipinadala kay Nicolas
dela Peña para sa ligal na opinyon. Samantala, binisita ni Ramon Blanco si Rizal sa bilangguan.

SCENE 4
Ramon Blanco(begs): (Papasok sa loob kulugan ni Rizal) Dr. Rizal! Disculpe mi visita
sorpresa. (Dr. Rizal! Excuse me for my surprise visit.)
Jose Rizal: No es nada de Gobernador General, estos funcionarios españoles me enferman,
pero no se preocupe, definitivamente puedo curarme. (It’s nothing Governor-General, these
Spanish officials make me sick but don’t worry I can definitely cure myself.) (medyo
sarcastic tone)
Ramon Blanco: Realmente no le temes a nadie. Por eso tienes muchos enemigos. (You truly
fear no one. That’s why you have a lot of enemies.)
Jose Rizal: (medyo natawa) Isa akong doctor. Ang tanging nais ko lamang ay mapagaling ang
aking mga kababayan. Ngunit ano ang iyong ginawa? Pinaniwala mo akong pinapayagan nyo
akong magtungo sa Cuba at magsilding doctor. Yun pala’y ipapahuli at ipapakulong nyo rin
akong muli. Napakahipokrito!
Ramon Blanco: Naipit ako sa mga nangyari at bigla na lamang naging ganito!
Jose Rizal: (Natawa na parang galit at hindi pinaniniwalan ang sambit ni Blanco)

NARRATOR: Hindi pinagbigyan si Rizal na magkaroon ng abogadng sibilyan ngunit

binigyan si Rizal ng pangalan ng una at pangalawang tenyente upang pumili at hingin ang
kanyang payo. Pinili niya ang pangalang Tenyente Luis Taviel de Andrade.

SCENE 5
Luis Andrade(warren): (Papasok si Andrada sa kulungan ni Rizal) Luis Traviel de Andrade,
your Defense Counsel.

Jose Rizal: Jose Rizal (makikipagshakehands) Please have a seat.

Luis Andrade: Muchas Gracias.
Jose Rizal: My destiny is in your hands.
Luis Andrade: Binabalaan na kita. Hindi pa ako gaanong bihasa sa batas.
Jose Rizal: Pinapili nila ako sa listahan ng napakaraming pangalan at ikaw ang napili ko.
Luis Andrade: ano ang dahilan?
Jose Rizal: (Tumayo at palakad-lakad) Pamilyar?
Luis Andrade: Kapatid ko si Jose Taviel
Jose Rizal: Ang aking dating gwardiya at katukayo.
Luis Andrade: Alam mo ba ang opinion ng mga tao sa iyo? (pause) Ikaw ay isang erehe,
filibustero at walang utang na loob.

Jose Rizal: Kanino?

Luis Andrade: Sa Espanya! Na pinagkakautangan mo ng lahat-lahat pati na iyong
edukasyon. Binangga mo ang simbahan at mga prayle kahit gayong alam mo na sila ang salita
at batas dito sa Pilipinas. Sa iyong pagsusulat, ang iyong pinakita ay ang mga panig nyo
lamang mga Pilipino. Paano ang panig ng mga prayle?

Jose Rizal: Ano ba ang dapat na isulat ko sa panig ng mga prayle?Kung gusto nila ay
magsulat rin sila upang malaman ang kanilang baluktot na gawain. (sarcastic tone)
Luis Andrade: Ayon sa komisyon ng Censura, ang iyong mga nobela ay kinakalaban ang
gobyerno, relihiyon, ang mga kastilang kawani ng hustisya at ang karangalan ng Espanya. Kaya
ipinagbawal ang pagimprenta at pagbenta ng libro mo sa buong Filipinas.

Jose Rizal: Lahat ng nakasulat sa aking nobela ay purong katotohanan. Ang nais lang namin
ay ang pagkakapantay ng Pilipino at mga Espanyol ngunit wala! Ang tanging ginawa ng mga
Kastilang ito ay ang pagsamantalahan ang mga Pilipino. Ikaw Taviel?!Akala ko ba ay ikaw ang
aking tagapagtanggol?Pero bakit halos lahat ay kasalungat ng iyong mga kilos?Bakit mo ba ako
tinutulungan? Para rin ba sa pera o ano man?!(galit na tono)

Luis Andrade: (pause) May pagkakataon ka pa para palitan ako bilang iyong abogado.
Magkita na lamang tayong muli sa korte. (lalabas at aalis na)

Luis Andrade: Estas teorías no siguen la determinación de la causa de las acusaciones.

Desde 1892, mientras estuvo exiliado en Dapitan durante cuatro años, nunca habló de política.
En junio de este año conoció a Don Pio Valenzuela. A decir verdad, nunca dio su
consentimiento y no quería la idea de la revolución. Por lo tanto, no se puede imponer la
demanda de la sentencia de este procesamiento. La defensa descansa. (These theories don’t
follow the determining of the cause of the accusations. Since 1892, while he was in exile

revolucionarios y hasta me construí una casa en Dapitan?
Es cierto que escribí la Constitución y los Estatutos de La Liga Filipina, pero esto es solo una
asociación cívica y no una sociedad revolucionaria.
Es cierto que hubo algunas declaraciones amargas en mis cartas, fue porque fueron escritas
cuando mi familia estaba siendo oprimida y procesada, siendo despojada de sus tierras y casas
y mi cuñado fue deportado sin el debido proceso.
Y mi vida en Dapitan fue ejemplar como lo atestiguan las actividades productivas para el
bienestar del pueblo que pudieron atestiguar los comandantes político-militares y sacerdotes
misioneros. ( I could not be guilty of rebellion for I even advised Valenzuela not to rise in
revolution. The revolution used my name without my knowledge. If I were the chief of the
revolution, why was I not consulted by the revolutionists and even build a house in
Dapitan.
It was true that I wrote the Constitution and By-Laws of the La Liga Filipina, but
this is only civic association and not a revolutionary society.
It is true that there were some bitter statements in my letters, it was because they
were written when my family were being oppressed and prosecuted, being dispossessed
of their lands and houses and my brother-in-law was deported without due process.
And my life in Dapitan was exemplary as evidenced by the productive activities for
the welfare of the people which could be attest by the politico-military commanders and
missionary priests.)

NARRATOR: Meanwhile, Teodora with Trinidad went to Govermor-General Polavieja(the one

who take over the position of Ramon Blanco) to seek help for his son.

Dona Teodora(Eden): Gobernador! (umiiyak)

Polavieja: No tengo tiempo (I don’t have time.)
Teodora: Signor, please I am begging you. Help my son, please. (umiiyak at nagmamakaawa)
Polavieja: Lo Siento

NARRATOR: Matapos maabisuhan sa kanyang hatol noong ikadalawamput siyam ng

disyembte, alam niya na kung ano ang kanyang magiging kapalaran. Sa kanyang natitirang
oras, nakatanggap siya ng maraming mga bisita sa kanyang kulungan sa Fort Santiago. Ang

Jose Rizal: Nanang, Pagkamatay ko po hingiin niyo po ang aking bangkay kaagad baka kasi
bigla na lamang akong itapon sa kung saan-saan. Ibaon nyo po ako sa lupa, lagyan ng isang
bato at krus at ilagay ang araw ng kapanganakan at kamatayan.

Teodora: umiiyak (kasama si Bracken,Lucia(Ypon) at Trining(Aira) na umiiyak rin)

Jose Rizal: Regalo ito ng mga Taviel (pakita ng lampara) at ngayon ay ibibigay ko na sa inyo.
(Ibibigay kay Trining sabay sabing)
Jose Rizal: May iba pa iyang laman.
Teodeora, Trining, Lucia, at Bracken: (patuloy pa rin na umiiyak)
Jose Rizal: (haharap kay Teodora) Alam kong nagdulot po ako sa inyo ng labis na pighati at
kalungkutan kaya sana patawarin niyo po ako.
(haharap kay Bracken) Goodbye my dear and unhappy wife.

(Rizal’s body fell lifeless on the ground with his face facing the sky.)
