Production Portfolio

29/01/2021:
As my objective is to create a podcast based on the main sports around the world, hence the
name ‘The World of Sports’ podcast, I will need 2 guests on set with me whilst we record us
discussing numerous topics based on and around sports. For this, I had to consider numerous
fields, such as copyright, permission to include them, money, travel, and many more. However,
the most important out of all of them is the permission to include them, and an invitation sent
to them. To do this, I would have to contact the nominated chosen guests. I decided to email
them, as this is one of the most reliable and fastest ways of communication, especially during
the lockdown situation we are in now.

30/01/2021:
Today, it was my intention to choose and nominate the two guests I will invite onto my podcast
show. I had to take consequences such as travels, COVID, and availability into aspect. I had
thought about all of these in advance, and I had a thought of who I'd invite on my podcast
episode. The two guests I would love to attend are David Chime, and Wojtek. I decided to
choose these two people due to their vast knowledge in sports. David who plays football,
basketball, and athletics, has a great friendship with me and it would be much easier for
someone who is comfortable with me and easy to talk to, to be on the podcast. Wojtek also
understands sports very well. With Wojtek, I will be talking more about the other aspects in
sports, such as nutrition, the preparations, the sacrifices, and of course basketball as he is very
familiar with it. However, of course, first they must accept the invitation I have sent them via
email:
03/02/2021:
Having completed the invitations, I now needed to plan and produce the website, the legal
documents, the equipment's needed, and all other considerations needed to undergo a
successful podcast set up. I knew that as I will need a large amount of space, I needed to book
out the studio and the equipment I needed. However, I was not too sure of this, due to the
coronavirus regulations at the moment. But as technology allows us to communicate face to
face via any device's camera, this was how I would be communicating with my guests during
the podcast episode if I weren’t allowed to use the studio. But to ensure this, my guests must
be able to have microphones on their devices and they must have either data or broadband to
ensure this is possible to record. Furthermore, considering that the podcast will be distributed
onto the website and social media, we must ensure that every legal document is considered
and not left out as this can lead to the podcast being sued, and deleted.
07/02/2021:
For my podcast, I will be purchasing a microphone that will be attached to my phone, and the
guest's device in order to ensure we have the best quality sounds for the podcast if I'm not
capable of using the studio. The microphones will be delivered to the guest's houses, and I will
instruct them on how to use them. Other than this, there will be no other equipment needed,
apart from the software needed to edit and correct the podcast audio. For this, I will be able to
use my computer device as it has the software: ‘Adobe Premier Pro’ which is a very good
editing software suitable for our audio.

12/02/2021:
Today I contacted a professional footballer, to invite them to an episode of my podcast. As I will
be filming athletes and my podcast is based on sports, it's important for me to work hard at
making sure every week there is a new athlete that can discuss the numerous aspects of sports,
from the dieting, training, and schedule.
15/02/2021:
The next task left to do was to create a website which would enable my audience to listen and
engage with the podcast and us. For this, I needed to use weebly.com, as it is an easy and
efficient way of creating the best website suited for my podcast organization. I intended to
create a sporty, yet tech type feel to my website, as my podcast is based on sports and my
podcast will be accessible on all forms of technology. I started off by choosing my template for
my website, and then got to work on creating all the pages needed, and the title and subtitles
for each page. I made a page for my episodes, about us, contact information, and a home page
which invites users and engages them even more into the website.
18/02/2021:
As I had not yet added any text on any of the other pages, I decided to continue working on the
website to ensure it stands out better than any other websites and podcasts. I added the
episodes pages and created social media pages for the podcast. I feel and understand that
social media is one of the best ways of promoting and advertising a product or service, as social
media and technology is one of the main things in our daily lives. Although, advertising on social
media may often cost, it can promote us as a service to a larger group of people and create a
larger community as we create better and better episodes.
24/02/2021:

As my invitation was declined by both David Chime, and Wojtek due to COVID reasons, I had to
act fast and send out an invitation to 2 people who would be my guests on the first episode of
my podcast. I decided that David Owusu and Kamar were both the match for my first podcast
episode. As you can see in the image above, David Owusu, and Kamar have both accepted my
invitation. Now that my invitation was accepted by both Kamar Tinubu, and David Owusu, I can
start planning my set up within the studio for my podcast episodes. As David Owusu is
incredibly good at managing technology and has great technical skills, he has accepted a role as
the co-host in my show. Furthermore, as we discuss sports topics and football is one of the
most popular sports all around the world, I have managed to get Kamar as the guest for my first
episode of the podcast. I decided this due to Kamar’s, work ethic and desire into football, as
well as his training schedule and sacrifices he has had to take after halting his goalkeeping
career to start boxing. After stopping his footballing career, Kamar has seen numerous changes
in the difference between football training and boxing training, alongside many other changes
such as food, dieting, schedules, and commitment. His journey is inspiring and as our podcast is
based on numerous sports, it can help many young athletes and our audience get an insight
into the hard work and dedication needed, to stay at the top. What I will discuss in the first
episode will be mainly, why Kamar stopped his football career, how it has made him a better
person, and why he still works hard day in and day out after school and before school.
Furthermore, we will discuss football topics for this episode, due to both Kamar’s and David
Owusu’s background in football. The main topic of discussion will be U19’s football and youth
development.

27/02/2021:
Now that I knew exactly who my upcoming guest will be, and my team, I had also finished the
website, listing many features and services we offer to our audience. For example, on the main
page, I have listed the upcoming guest, in order to excite our audience for our episode.
Furthermore, I have added links to the episode page, so the audience have no struggles and
problems accessing each and every one of our episodes.

01/03/2021:
As I needed to plan ahead, I decided to email a potential guest for my second episode. This
person who is a boxer, is a close friend of mine and grew up in the same neighborhood as me.
This is a benefit for our audience, as there will be more personal and deeper questions asked,
about the life of a boxer, and more. This episode would have to be held through a zoom call,
and I would once again have to post a microphone to this guest address, in order to enable a
professional standard of recording. As Ohio, who is our guest, has lost 2 of his 6 fights, we will
go deep into the consequences and the deep side of boxing that many people don’t see, such as
the aftermath of a loss, and the feelings or regret after a fight. I believe these topics are very
catchy and stand out to our audience, as it gives such a closer look at the disadvantages and the
side many people don’t see on TV.

05/03/2021:
Next for my task, was to create an engaging thumbnail for my episode to be displayed within
my website. For this I would use Canva.com, as this is incredibly easy to use and efficient. Of
course, this would take me a while to create as I am doing my best to limit the amount of
money spent, therefore, I have not hired an editor, or a thumbnail creator. The thumbnail
would engage our audience and visitors of the website and persuade them to click on the video.
07/03/2021:
Next, I needed to make sure that my podcast would have a video intro to ensure that it keeps
its professional standards. For this I needed to use Canva because it's one of the best ways of
creating thumbnails, intros, and outros for videos. As Photoshop, and Premier Pro can be
professional and hard to use, it would be easier and less time consuming to use Canva as my
solution to make a great intro.

09/03/2021:
Now, I had completed the creation of my intro for my podcast, and I was more than satisfied
with the intro, as although it seemed very basic, it stood out and was well suited to my
podcast's topics. Next, I needed to set out a plan for recording my first episode of my podcast. I
needed to ensure that the studio would be booked, and I booked out the equipment I needed.
12/03/2021:
Today I booked out the studio in order to film my podcast episode. It was very important to
book out the studio as I didn’t want to delay the production and editing of my podcast.
Furthermore, my guests may not be available on other days and equipment may not be
available to be booked out. With booking out the studio, I needed to book out the camera,
tripod, and the microphone in order for my podcast to be the best quality, sound wise, and
video wise. The set-up id has within the studio would be 3 chairs next to each other, with a desk
in front of us.

17/03/2021:
Today, I would record my first podcast episode in the studio. The time me and the guests had
agreed to be at the studio was 9am, and everyone arrived on time. We were let into the studio,
and I set up the camera, microphone, tripod, and the seating. Our guests were accommodated
with food and drinks whilst the wait. Then within the hour of studio time, we managed to
record the podcast all in one go. I was very happy with the recording because of the fact, it was
rather professional, and we were always in constant discussions rather than pausing every few
seconds. However, I also decided to do a Zoom call podcast, as due to covid regulations, many
people would argue that this is the safest way to do a podcast. I will then, once I have recorded
both, decide between the two. The hardest part was managing to get my guests to appear on a
zoom call at home. As we all know, many people may not have the right space or technology to
record a podcast, so I made sure both guests understood the manner of filming that will be
taking place at home.

23/03/2021:
Today I firstly started off by setting up my zoom app on my Microsoft surface pro device, in
order to film the remaining online podcast session which was agreed upon with both guests.
However, I came across a fascinating problem which held me back from starting the session
right away. The app would not let other people join my call without the password, and as it was
my first time using the app, I struggled to manage and find my way through the app. Although
this was a minor difficulty and setback, it meant that the guests would need to wait longer to
join the call. This is a disadvantage as the host of the podcast, as if the guest is upset or
frustrated, it could lead up to the guest leaving before the start of the podcast, or even creating
rumors about the management of the podcast, and many more consequences which would
result in a bad conflicting start to the podcast series. But, as I am good friends with both the
guests, they both understood the issues I was coming across, and agreed to extend the time
they would stay on the podcast. As zoom has a recording function, it made it incredibly easy to
record and store the footage onto my software. Furthermore, it gave me the freedom of
pausing the recording when I wanted to which meant I could pause the recording if needed.

After the podcast was recorded, I thanked both my guests, and informed them of what I will do
now with the episodes we had filmed, such as when they’ll be broadcasted and released, and
when I will accommodate them with travel costs. I also really enjoyed this podcast that was
filmed over a zoom call, as it was incredibly simple and easy to use. On top of this, it was so
much easier and less awkward to create a conversation between the guests and me, whereas
the recording in the studio seemed more quiet and awkward. The difference between the two
would be that the zoom podcast was easier and more had the edge in simplicity. Furthermore,
it didn’t need to be edited a lot, which benefited me time wise, whereas the studio filmed
podcast took much longer to edit. However, the hardest part would be choosing between the
two for the first episode, as I could not release both at the same time.

Overall, I felt like I had fulfilled my objectives, and I had managed to create an effective and
detailed podcast which discussed the numerous aspects of sports that I had set out to reach. I
believe the reason why my podcast will be successful is due to the hard work and the unique
discussions we created within the podcast episodes. For example, not many people would go
out there way to create a zoom podcast and a normal video podcast and choose between the
two. Secondly, the uniqueness of my podcast allows users to focus on one topic per episode.
For example, the first episode was based on U19’s football and youth development, hence the
thumbnail which displays this. I agree that my podcast may not be the best in regard to
production, lighting, audio, camera angles, studio, but with the budget I had set myself, I
definitely felt I done everything in my power to create the best podcast possible.

25/03/2021:
Today was the day id start the editing of both my podcasts as it was my intention to upload my
first episode by the 30th of March. I wanted to start off by editing the studio podcast, as this
was the first one, I had filmed, alongside this one being the one I had the most confidence and
pride in. I felt that with background music and edits, this may be outstanding and may win the
spot at being the one to be published for the first episode. I started off by placing the SD card
from the camera used, into the MacBook, and placing all the files from the SD card into my
desktop. Then I made sure that the original copy of the filming was uploaded to my OneDrive,
to make sure it was never lost or deleted. After this was done, I then proceeded to load up
premiere pro, as this was the software id use to edit my footage. I was very confident in the use
of premiere pro, as it has numerous editing features which would be beneficial to my footage
and the improvement of the footage. On top of this, in the original footage I could hear a white
noise in the background which needed to be fixed, and the premiere pro would allow me to do
that.

Once premiere pro was loaded, I proceeded to add my footage onto the timeline, and start the process
of cutting, editing, and improving my podcast footage. Almost instantly, I realized that the screen was
too basic, and it needed a bit of edge to it, which is why I went onto photoshop and created a slot which
would contain my service logo, alongside my name and the guest's name. This gave the podcast so much
more of a professional look, and it instantly became enhanced and outstanding. Furthermore, I realized
that we spoke about numerous topics which needed clips to be placed into our footage. For this, I
needed to use non copyright highlights of certain football matches and place them into the timeline to
show the viewers our main topic of discussion in different parts of the podcast. Although this seemed
fairly easy to do, it took me a while to do it as it involved me searching for non-copyright football clips
which was much harder than it seemed. After this, I needed to cut the bloopers and remove them from
the footage. As Ive mentioned before, I need to make sure that the podcast footage remains
professional throughout the whole 14 minutes of footage. This is important, in order to ensure that we
stay ahead or in similar pace with our competitors, whom may discuss similar sports whilst our topics
will always be different.

29/03/2021:
Whilst most of my editing was done for my first podcast footage, my zoom podcast still had to
be edited. However, I had come to the conclusion that the first podcast footage which was
filmed within the studio, would be the one which would be published to our audience. This
decision came, after the comparison between the two in terms of audio quality, video quality,
and the efficiency of our discussions. As I realized, the lighting, audio and video quality of the
zoom footage, was not as I had imagined, and it was rather bad. Hence this, I decided to
continue the final editing of the first footage. I knew instantly that the first footage was the one
that would stand out, as I understood that the editing would elevate the quality of the footage
we already had. And, like I mentioned before, although we have had such a low budget, I have
exceeded my expectations in terms of professionalism, and the efficiency and class of my
footage.

To conclude, as I had finished the final light touches of editing, such as adding a non-copyright
background music, I went onto my website, to add a parting where my podcast episode would
go. I intended to create a thumbnail which would be embedded with a hyperlink to my footage,
however, this was not possible, so I decided to add my thumbnail, with a button underneath
with an embedded hyperlink. Whereas many podcasts would be on YouTube or Spotify, I
decided that the best option for us would be to advertise my podcast on social media but put
my own stamp and authority by using my own website to host my podcast episodes.

Finally, I had finished my first podcast episode, and it was now officially uploaded onto my
website.
