time. The students shall find the connection of the
pictures. A word that connects the pictures will be guessed
by the students.

Jumblee: There are jumbled words/ phrases that are
sounds like to every syllable of the concepts of Social
Sciences that will be flashed on screen and the players will
have to guess what WORD is it. Example: (hop, pee, nest) –
HAPPINESS; (seen, tee, writ, sir) – SINCERITY; (wore, tee,
trash) –TRUSTWORTHY.

Discussion

With the aid of powerpoint presentation, discuss the


meaning of POLITICS:
• Politics is the study of (who gets what, when and
how) as Harold Laswell states.
• Politics is the exercise of power, the science of
government, the making of collective decisions, the
allocation of scarce resources and the practice of
deception and manipulation.

Characteristics of politics
( Shieveley, 2013)
1. Politics always involves the making of collective
decisions for group of people.
2. Those decisions are made by some members of the
group, exercising power over other members of the
group.

ELEMENTS OF STATE:
 PEOPLE/ POPULATION
All individuals who, in principle, inhabit the territory in a
permanent way.
 TERRITORY
The geographical area that is owned and controlled by a
government or country exercise such state sovereignty.
 SOVEREIGNTY
The quality of having supreme, independent authority
over a territory.
 GOVERNMENT
The focus of the common purpose of the people occupying
a definite territory. It is the branch of the state and has the
role to administer the state.

After the discussion, ask the learners whether the topic


discussed is clear and if the students have no questions/
clarifications. If there is/are, explain briefly the topics and
cite more examples. If none, proceed to assessment.

Quiz

To verify whether the learners has clearly understood the


topic discussed, conduct a 5 item assessment.

Ask the students to prepare a ¼ sheet of paper and answer


the following items:

SONG ANALYSIS
A music video will be played. Students will analyze the
song by answering the question; “How is politics defined
in Philippine setting and what is your political view about
the music video?”

THOUGHT TO PONDER

Have the students share their thoughts about the famous


quote from the movie Spiderman “With great power
comes great responsibility.” Let the students relate it to
the concepts of the discussion about politics.

Create a 400-word reflection about the song, answering


the question: “How can we relate POLITICS defined in the
Philippine setting basedon the song?

Criteria for Grading
