III. Procedure
Teachers Activity Students Response

Preliminary Activity

Good morning class. Good morning ma’am!

Who is assigned to lead the prayer? Please lead. (The students prayed) … Amen!
Amen!
May I know who’s absent for today? (A student mentioned the names of the absents)
Thank you!

Motivation
I want you to close your eyes everyone.
Think of a place where you are together with your
friends and families.
You are having time chit chatting with them and
until you notice the cloud becomes darker.
The rain starts dripping heavy and heavy as time
passes by.
You heard the sounds of thunder
(Thunder and Lightning sound play)
Followed by a near lightning strike as the heavy
rain keeps falling.
Now open your eyes . . .

What did you feel? (Students gave their own opinion)

Do you know why there is thunder and lightning? No ma’am.
Then, we will discuss it later. Are you ready? Yes ma’am!

A. ENGAGE

Let us watch a video!

What did you understand from the video? (The student gave their own opinion.)
Very good.

B. EXPLORE

Ok class, group yourself into four. Each group

should come up with a yell about thunderstorm
and lightning. Then, perform a short skit about
how the thunderstorm and lightning reacts when
there is a heavy rain.

I will give you 3 minutes to prepare and perform

your output not more than 60 seconds. Did
everyone get it? Yes ma’am!

C. EXPLAIN

Answer the following questions:

1. What can you infer in the picture?

2. What are the + and – signs show?
3. What is the role of the cloud in formation of
thunder and lightning?
4. When does a thunderstorm happens?

D, ELABORATE

Thunder and lightning all occur due to the release

of energy – thunder is a soundwave, and lightning
is the emission of electromagnetic energy. The
reason we see a flash of lightning before hearing
thunder is because light travels faster than sound.
The speed of light depends on what it is moving
through - being slow in gases, fast in liquids, and
even quicker in solids. In the air, sound travels at
around 332 metres per second. This is a big
contrast to the speed of light, that travels about
300 000 kilometres per second.

Compared to light, sound takes its time to travel

during a thunderstorm. Scientists have attempted
to measure the speed of sound for centuries after
Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727) devised the first
theoretical calculation of the speed of sound.
Group Activity
Each group will gather data based from the
discussion we have a while ago then make a
comparison between Thunder and Lightning.
Present for only 1 mins and 30 secs. I will give you
5 mins to brainstorm. Are you ready class? Yes ma’am!

E. Evaluate

Directions: Give the similarity and difference of

Lightning and Thunder using the Venn Diagram.
(10pts)

IV. ASSIGNMENT

As you go home, interview at least 3 person who have experience hearing thunder and watching
lightning. Write their experiences in a short bondpaper.
