CONTEXTUALIZING LITERACY LESSONS FOR FILIPINO LEARNERS

WHAT 5 INSIGHTS HAVE YOU GAINED FROM THE MODULE?

In the field of teaching contextualization is essential since it caught the students interest in the
particular lesson. This context provide a relevant information to the topic and teaching
learning process will become more systematic. The other insight that I gained in this module
is the benefits of contextualization to the teacher. In applying contextualize course materials
in process of teaching, teacher will be save a time and effort in preparing teaching materials
since the teaching materials is localize. The Localization process of relating local information
and materials from the learner’s community, learner’s develop the prior knowledge. Student
relatedness in the lesson is important. The learning process will become more effective and it
creates a good communication between the teacher and students. Indigenization gives
background to historical, biographical content about the specific community that students
required to know.
HOW DID THE MODULE MAKE YOU FEEL? BE AS DESCRIPTIVE AS YOU CAN

Since I have already read this module there are some new terms but I think, I heard it before.
This module gives us better definition of the terms like indigenization and localization. Using
those terms or words it easy to understand the concept of contextualization. This module
provide the information which is very useful to improve my knowledge about content course.

WHAT IS THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE DISCUSSION IN THE MODULE AS A

BEED STUDENT AND AS A FUTURE TEACHER?

As a BEED students or Pre-service teacher those information the module provided is

beneficial in my career. It gives deeper thought about the process of teaching literacy with the
context of localization. The Contextualizing literacy lessons for Filipino learners is gives me
knowledge on how to deal with the students. As a teacher those strategies that stated in the
given module is crucial to improve the teaching method and in order to deliver the lesson
properly.

CONTEXTUALIZATION IN TEACHING LITERACY

Contextualization is very essential in teaching literacy among the learner’s. It give

opportunity to students express the prior knowledge or schema. Contextualization engage the
students in the lesson in terms of localization and indigenization. The students background in
their community biogeographical, historical, and socio-cultural content. Through
Contextualization the teaching-learning process will become meaningful
