Week 11 Journals

Monday (7/19/2021): 7: 15 am - 4:00pm; 8 hours

Today was a big day. I had to present my A3 to all of the hospital leadership, including

the CEO of the hospital. I got in and sat at my desk going over the PowerPoint one last time. I

had a staff meeting on the 4th floor at 8:30am about the ‘Who Cleans What’ checklist until

9:15am. At 9:40am the other intern, Elizabeth, and I headed down to classroom A for our

presentations. Our presentations ended at 11:20am and we headed back upstairs. I worked until

1: 20pm and then headed to the 2nd west where there were no patients due to maintenance.

Elizabeth and I were tasked with ensuring that the TV guide that the hospital had for patients was

matching up with the actual channels. We did this until 2:15pm and headed back to my desk.

There, Elizabeth and I went through the Patient Guide for Emory Johns Creek to figure out who

from the staff would be best suited to update the data, so that tomorrow I could email everyone

the appropriate information. We did this until it was time to go at 4pm.

Tuesday (7/20/2021): 7: 22 am - 4:00pm; 8 hours

I got in and sat at my desk to check my email and sent a couple emails about updating our

patient guide. At 8:15am I headed to the 4th floor staff meeting again to speak about the ‘Who

Cleans What’ checklist. I headed back to my desk and continued to send emails about updating

the patient guide. At 10am I headed down to my supervisor’s office, who was finally back from

vacation. I talked to her about yesterday’s presentation and then headed back to my desk. I

worked at my desk for the remainder of the day until 4pm when it was time to go home.

Wednesday (7/21/2021): 7: 20 am - 4:00pm; 8 hours

I got in and worked at my desk until 9:30am and then headed down to talk to my

supervisor. I talked with her about next steps and making time to look over my presentation for
Friday to CEEOC (Clinical Excellence Executive Oversight Committee Presentation). At 11am I

joined her on construction rounds, which is where she goes around with the contractors to ensure

it is up to code to protect patients. I headed back to my desk after rounds ended at 12pm. I had a

working lunch at my desk and continued working until 2pm. At 2pm I met with my supervisor to

go over my presentation to make sure it was appropriate for the meeting on Friday. At 3:20pm

we headed to the EVS office to ask the EVS director, David, some questions. At 4pm, I went

back to my desk and packed up my things to head home.

Thursday (7/22/2021): 7: 16 am - 4:00pm; 8 hours

I worked at my desk this morning until 10am. At 10 I had my usual EVS supervisor’s

meeting to go over important issues or topics that need to be addressed. We met until 10:30 and

then headed to the board room for a presentation. The presentation was about the IV pump

cleaning process and why we are encountering issues with the process. The meeting ended at 11

and I headed back to my desk. I worked at my desk until 1:55 and headed down to my

supervisor's office to ask her a question about the CEEOC presentation. At 2:30 I went back to

my desk to continue working until 4pm.

Friday (7/23/2021): 7: 20am - 4:00pm; 8 hours

I got in and went to my desk to send an email to my supervisor, and I added some last-

minute changes to my CEEOC presentation. I worked at my desk until 10am and then headed

down to my supervisor’s office to head to the CEEOC meeting. The Meeting ended at 12, and I

headed back to my desk. I worked at my desk until 2:30, and then helped my supervisor with

busy work and errands until 4pm.

Weekly Hours: 40

Total Hours to date: 425

As my internship is coming to an end, everyday feels bittersweet. I feel

accomplished, but I also wish I could stay to see the progress of the hospital after I leave. A

challenge for me this week was trying to make sure all information being shared was the

same and not being miscommunicated. I also was trying to balance my internship and my

classwork and making sure everything was done well. I enjoyed my time here, but I am also

ready for a long needed break.
