Introducing Oneself and Polite
Expressions
Competencies:

 Talk about oneself, one’s family, and personal experiences using


appropriate expressions, and

 Use/respond appropriately to polite expressions: greetings,


leave takings, expressing gratitude and apology, asking
permission, offering help

It is important to introduce yourself


because it shows your ability to meet new
people confidently. It makes others feel more
comfortable and allows you to make a good
first impression. Knowing how to introduce
yourself helps you “break the ice” when
meeting new people.

The right way of introducing oneself is to use
proper expressions like “I am _____ (your
name) or “My name is _____ (your name).
You must speak loudly and clearly so that
others can understand what you are saying.
You can also share other information about
yourself like:
 Age
 Birthday
 Address
 Parent’s name
 School and,
 Grade level

Filipinos have high regard for respect. This is


the reason why we need to be polite at all times.
Using these expressions show respect towards
other people.

Please – when you are asking for something
Sorry – if you have hurt someone
Excuse me – when passing by
May I – when you are asking for permission

The phrases “Good Morning” and


“Thank You” are some examples of
polite expressions that can be used
when you introduce yourselves. Keep
in mind that, this will help you, not just
to boost your confidence, but also you
will be respected by everyone. And
helps you to meet nice friends as well.
