Preliminaries
Teacher’s Introduction Good Morning Grade 4 pupils, It’s
a brand new day and a brand
chance to learn.
So, Come on, get your pen, paper
and self-learning module and let’s
start to learn and to love
Mathematics.

For today’s lesson you should be

able to solve routine and non-
A. Objectives routine word problems involving
division of 3-to-4 digit numbers by
1-to-2 digit numbers including
money using appropriate problem
solving strategies and tools.

2. Motivation I will show you a different pictures

of animals and tell me where can
you usually saw this animals? In
the farm? In the zoo or in the
house?
This animals are what we called
pet animals.
Who among you have pets in your
house?
That’s great!

How do you take care of them?

Very Good, you are taking care of

them by giving them their basic
needs like food, water, shelter and
love.
This time, I’ll be reading you a
short story about a boy named
Adam and how he takes care of his
pet.

Are you now ready to listen?

Good, so let’s start.

3. Discussion Reading a short story. The title of our story for today is
“Caring for Billy”

Adam loves animals so much. He

loves taking care of his pets. He
loves taking care of injured and
homeless animals.
One day, when he was out in the
playground playing with his
friends, he saw a small, brown bird
with a broken wing. He walked
over to it and picked it up.
Adam’s friends went home with
him and helped him bandage the
bird’s wings. Everybody loved the
bird so much. They named him
Billy. Billy became Adam and
friends’ favorite pet.
One Monday, Lisa, one of
Adam’s friends, brought 132
kernels of corn. Adam and his fried
knew that Billy only eats 12
kernels of corn everyday. Now,
they wanted to know how many
days it would take Billy to eat the
132 kernels of corn.

Let’s have a comprehension check

if you really listen and understand
our story for today,
1. Who loves animals so much?
2. What did Adam and his friends
saw in the playground?
3. What is the name of the bird?
4. Who brought kernels of corn for
Billy?
5. What is the problem in the
story?

Let’s help Billy and his friends find

out how many days it would take to
finish all the corn kernels.
How can we solve the problem?

UNDERSTAND

What is asked in the

problem?
*How many days it would
take Billy to eat the 132
kernels of corn.

What are the given?

*132 and 12 kernels of corn
Strategies in Solving Word
Problems PLAN

What operation to be used?

*Division

SOLVE

Mathematical sentence :
132 ÷ 12 = N

132 ÷ 12 = 11 days

CHECK

12 x 11 = 132

Note: If you multiply the divisor by

the quotient you should get the
original number.

Caring for Billy gave the

opportunity for Adam and his
friends to exchange stories about
their pets. Find out what their
stories are and help solve the
problems they met.

1. My pet Blackie has already

delivered 8 puppies last year. Mom
bought 1, 248 grams of dog food
for their supply. How much dog
Activity 1: food is alloted for each puppy?

Let’s solve the problem,

UNDERSTAND

What is asked in the

problem?
*The amount of dog food
alloted for each puppy

What are the given?

*8 puppies and 1, 248
grams of dog food

PLAN
What operation to be used?
*Division

SOLVE

Mathematical sentence :
1 248 ÷ 8 = N

I will be giving you 15

seconds to answer, and
your timer starts now.
The answer is:

1 248 ÷ 8 = 156 grams

CHECK

8 x 156 = 1 248

For Activity 2 and 3, I will be

giving you 1 minute to provide the
information being asked in each
problem. Write your answer in a
paper then picture it out and post it
to our comment section.

2. I plan to take care of some baby

turtles, then, sell them. If I buy 15
turtles for Php1, 650.00, how much
is the price of each?

UNDERSTAND

What is asked in the

problem?
*The cost / price of each
turtle

What are the given?

*15 turtles and Php 1,
650.00

PLAN

What operation to be used?

*Division

SOLVE

Mathematical sentence :
Php1, 650 ÷ 15 = N

Php1, 650 ÷ 15 =
Php110.00

CHECK

15 x 110 = 1, 650

3.My dad raised 2,592 chickens

last year. If he gets an equal
number of chicken every month,
how many chickens does he get?

father get

What are the given?

* 2,592 chickens and every month

PLAN

What are the given?

* 2,592 chickens and every month

What operation to be used?

*Division

SOLVE

Mathematical sentence : 2,592 ÷ 12

=N
2, 592 ÷ 12 = 216

CHECK

12 x 216 = 2, 592

Great Job grade 4 pupils it really

shows that you listen very well to
