SOCIAL STRATIFICATION
- is a form of inequality
- process wherein the members of the society are ranked in terms of their superiority
- the members were divided into different strata or layers that fall in a hierarchy

SOCIAL MOBILITY – this is how people manage to change their social position over a
period of time.
a. Horizontal Mobility – if person were to move in an equally ranked position.
b. Vertical Mobility – this refers on how people would move up and down in the social
hierarchy.

Two types of Class Systems:


a. Open Class System – a person’s status is based from his/her achievement.
b. Closed Class System – people were born into their classes and they will usually remain
in their ascribed status for the rest of their life.

SOCIAL INEQUALITY – people having unequal access to various resources and


privileges in society. It is characterized by three factors; wealth, power and prestige.

NON-STATE INSTITUTIONS
- people and organizations that participate in the international affairs and relations but
are not affiliated with any state or nation
 BANKS – known as the most basic form and sign of society’s financial status.
 CORPORATION - a body of people acting as a single entity. It is a created by a
group of shareholders who have ownership of the corporation.
 COOPERATIVE (coops/co-ops) – associations owned by people who voluntary
cooperate with each other under the influence of their social, economic and
cultural benefits.
 TRADE UNIONS – this is also known as a labor union. These are organized by
workers to share a mutual benefits between members.
 TRANSACTIONAL ADVOCACY GROUP - actors joined together with their shared
beliefs and ideologies to try and influence the international setting of the world.
**ADVOCACY – is an idea from an individual group which aims to influence a political,
economic, and social decision.
 DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES – independent organizations that aim to implement
strategic ways of developing territories
 INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION – promotes, enhances, and ensures its
members through advocacies and state actions.
**TWO TYPES OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: INGOs and Intergovernmental
Organizations
