Fault Code: 111 Engine Control Module - critical internal failure. Error Engine may
PID: S254 internal to the ECM related to memory hardware not start.
SPN: 629 failures or internal ECM voltage supply circuits.
FMI: 12/12

Circuit Description

The ECM is a computer that is responsible for engine control, diagnostics, and user
features.

Component Location

The ECM is located on the fuel system side of the engine. It is attached at the cylinder head
between cylinders 2 and 3. Refer to Procedure 100–002 in Section E for a detailed
component location view.

Shop Talk

This fault code can only be caused by an internal ECM problem. Repairs are not possible
for the ECM.

To reduce the possibility of damaging a new ECM, all other active fault
codes must be investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

z Turn keyswitch OFF and wait 5

z Start the engine and let it idle for 1
minute.

YES NO
No Repair Replace the ECM.

Call for authorization.

z Turn keyswitch ON.

Action

z Read the inactive counts of Fault

Code 111 using INSITE™.

Are there less than 3 counts? Are there less than 3 counts?
YES NO
No Repair Replace the ECM.

Call for authorization.

Go to 2B Repair complete

z Connect the INSITE™ electronic
service tool.
