*Lesson 1 (The Human Breathing System)
Activity 1 (The Human Breathing System: Parts/Functions)
Observations/Guide Questions:
1.

Nose

Nasal passages

Windpipe

trachea

Bronchi

Lungs

Bronchioles

Alveoli

Diaphragm
2. Enumerate the key parts of the human breathing system.

a. nose, which the air enters and is filtered

b. nasal passages, serve as channel for airflow through the nose

c. windpipe, serve as channel for airflow through the nose

d. bronchi, two branching tubes that connect the trachea to the lungs

e. bronchioles, hairlike tubes that connect to the alveoli

f. alveoli, allow the gas exchange in lungs

g. Lungs,

h. Diaphragm,

i. Trachea,

3. What do you think will happen if one part of your breathing system fails to carry out its

function properly?

The other parts of the breathing system will not be able to carry out their corresponding
functions as well, and the whole respiratory system will be affected.

4. Illustrate the flow of oxygen in our breathing system through a diagram. (You may use

arrows to indicate the flow).

nose nasal passages trachea bronchi bronchioles

alveoli.

Generalization:

1. What are the key parts of the human breathing system?

a. nose
b. nasal passages
c. windpipe
d. bronchi
e. bronchioles
f. alveoli
g. Lungs
h. Diaphragm
i. Trachea

2. How would you describe the movement of oxygen in the human breathing?

From the nose and mouth, oxygen travels to the trachea, bronchi, bronchioles,

and then into the alveoli.

3. Therefore, the breathing human system is _______________________

… the flow of air we breathe which goes through the nose, nasal passages, and
then through trachea or windpipe, which separates into two branches, called
bronchial tubes or bronchi, one entering each lung.

* Lesson 2 (The Circulatory System)

Activity 2 (Just Go with the Flow)

Observations/Guide Questions:
1. Gas exchange happens when we inhale and exhale. We take in the oxygen, and emit
carbon dioxide.
2. The blood delivers nutrients, oxygen, and other chemicals that are absorbed by the
body
3. The heart pumps the blood that transports the inhaled oxygen to every cell of the
body. Carbon dioxide is given off in the process and is carried by the blood to the
lungs and is released through exhalation.
4. Oxygen enters the respiratory system through inhalation and then it enters the blood
stream to be circulated throughout the body. Carbon dioxide from the tissues enter
the blood, then to the lungs where it is exhaled.
5. When your body does not have enough oxygen, serious health consequences will
occur. Without oxygen cells can't function and can die.
Circulatory System
What I have learned? (Using the given organizer)
1. Heart 6. Veins
2. Blood 7. Capillaries
3. Pumps the blood throughout the body 8. Pulmonary Circulation
4. Carries the blood throughout the body 9. Coronary Circulation
5. Arteries 10. Movement of blood from the heart, to
the lungs, and back to the heart
* Lesson 3 (The Human Heart)
Activity 3 (My Heart in Action)
Observations/Guide Questions:
1. The heart is a hollow muscle which is just as big as the fist.
2. It has four chambers with specific tasks to do: two ventricles and two atria.
3.

Parts Description Function

1. Left Atrium The upper right chamber The left atrium receives
of the heart oxygenated blood from
the lungs and pumps it
down into the left
ventricle which delivers it
to the body

2. Left Ventricle Ventricle, muscular The left ventricle pumps

chamber that pumps blood full of oxygen out
blood out of the heart to the body.
and into the circulatory
system.
3. Right Atrium one of the four chambers The right atrium receives
of the heart. blood low in oxygen from
the body and then
empties the blood into
the right ventricle.
4. Right Ventricle The right ventricle (RV) is It receives deoxygenated
the most anterior of the blood from the right
four heart chambers. atrium (RA) and pumps it
into the pulmonary
circulation.
5. Valves The valves are like one- Control movement of
way doors that keep the blood into the heart
blood chambers and out to the
moving in only one aorta and the pulmonary
direction. artery.

4. The heart is a double pump that pumps on every side, the left and the right, to circulate
the blood throughout the body.
