Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah SWT for His mercy, guidance and inayah who have given
strength to the author so that the author is able to complete this English paper with the theme of
natural phenomena.

The author also realizes that this paper is still far from perfect, therefore criticism and helpful

CHAPTER 1

PRELIMINARY

A. Background

Earthquakes are vibrations or vibrations that occur on the earth's surface due to the sudden release of
energy from within that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are usually caused by the movement of the
Earth's crust (Earth's plates). The frequency of a region, refers to the type and size of earthquakes
experienced over a period of time. Earthquakes are measured using a seismometer. One example of an
earthquake that occurred in Indonesia is an earthquake in the Banten area

B. Problem Formulation

From the above background, the formulation of the problem in this paper is about How about the
information about the earthquake in Banten on 24-01-2018

C. Purpose of Writing

The purpose of writing this paper is to find out How about the information about the earthquake
in Banten on 24-01-2018

B. Another earthquake rocked Banten

The earthquake in the Lebak area, Banten, had an impact on Jakarta and West Java. Several
buildings in Megamendung Village, Bogor Regency, collapsed due to the earthquake on Tuesday
(23/01).

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred in Banten Province, on
Wednesday (24/01) afternoon, or a day after a similar incident rocked the same area.

Based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the
epicenter of the earthquake was 72 kilometers southwest of Lebak, Banten, with a depth of 42
kilometers.

The earthquake occurred at 13.32 WIB.

Ubaidilah Mochtar, head of the Multatuli Museum in Rangkasbitung, admitted that the
earthquake was felt, but "the conditions were much calmer than yesterday's earthquake".
Rangkasbitung City is the capital city of Lebak Regency, Banten Province, which is closest to
the epicenter.

"There is no panic among the residents. The office is also safe and there are no employees
scattering out," he told BBC Indonesia.

The day before, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck 81 kilometers west of
Lebak at a depth of 61 km under the sea.

Data from the National Disaster Management Agency noted that as a result of the disaster, as
many as 129 houses were damaged in 10 sub-districts, namely Bayah, Wanasalam, Cilograng,
Panggarangan, Lebak Gedong, Sobang, Cimarga, Sajira, Cihara, and Rinten sub-districts. In
Pandeglang, the Pandeglang CMBBS High School Hall collapsed and several houses were
damaged, there were no casualties.

Overall in Banten there were 115 houses damaged, 1 mosque damaged and 1 puskesmas
damaged.

Meanwhile, in West Java Province, there were a number of regencies visited.

In Bogor Regency, as many as 13 housing units were damaged, located in the Kelurahan Tari
Kolot, Pekancilan, and Kuta.

In Cianjur Regency, as many as 6 students were seriously injured and 2 students were lightly
injured due to the weight of collapsed roof tiles at SMK Tenggeung, Tanggeung District, Cianjur
Regency, West Java. There was also 1 heavily damaged house in Tanggeung Village and 1
heavily damaged house in Pagermaneuh Village.

In Sukabumi Regency, 9 houses were lightly damaged, 1 house was moderately damaged, 1
mosque was heavily damaged, and 2 public health facilities were slightly damaged.

A. Conclusion

C. Suggestion

earthquakes that occur sometimes are God's warnings to us so that we can improve ourselves to
the right path, therefore fix ourselves so that we avoid the wrath of God
