_____________________
WHY ARE CELLS SO SMALL IN SIZE?
A-Cells are so little, so they can maximize their ratio of surface area to
volume. Smaller cells have a higher ratio which allow more molecules
and ions move across the cell membrane per unit of cytoplasmic
volume. Cells are so small because they need to be able to get the
nutrients in and the waste out quickly. TO BE

Membranes act as physical barriers between the organelles of a cell and its cytoplasm and
its surrounding environment.
1.Impermeable – substances do not pass through the membrane
2.Permeable – both solute and solvent can pass through
3.Semipermeable – membrane permeable to solvent but prevents solutes passage
4. Selectively Permeable – if membrane allows the passage of solvent and some selected
solutes.
