COMMUNICATIVE

STRATEGIES
We all know that we, humans are
social beings. It is our nature to
communicate and connect with people.
...and surely there you could've
experienced the following or alike at
some point in your life.

NOMINATION
•Collaboratively and productively
establishes/introduces a topic
at the beginning.

Example:
I was late again! I set my alarm
to 5:30, but I was dead asleep!

RESTRICTION
•Refers to any limitation you
may have as a speaker by
restricting a response of the
other person involved.

Example:
That face-to-face plan was a
disaster waiting to happen. Do
you agree?
(Yes/No?)

TURN-TAKING
•The primary idea is to give all

a chance to
speak or an opportunity to take
turns in talking.

Example:
Write
May Iyour
havequestion
the floor,here.
Sir?
The floor is yours...

TOPIC-CONTROL
•When a topic is initiated, it
should be collectively developed
by avoiding unnecessary
interruptions and topic shifts.

Example:
Let's talk about the effects of
having the whole country jabbed.

REPAIR
•It is the self-righting mechanism
in any social interaction, or a
request for clarification to avoid
breakdown.

Example:
What did you say?
Can you repeat that?

TERMINATION
•Refers to the conversation
participants’ close-initiating
expressions that end a topic in a
conversation- verbal & nonverbal.

Example:
Let's call it a day.
Did you get it?
Enough said.

REFRAMING
•This means rephrasing or
redefining the topic into
something that you want to talk
about.

Example:
Remember what you said about
flower meanings when they are
given to a girl?
Red flowers mean what, again?

PERFORMANCE TASK:
Make a video showing at least 4
examples of Communicative
Strategies.
Define first, then provide examples
for your chosen 4 topics.
