Diegetic Sound

Sound present in this scene is original and source present on the screen for this scene is diegetic sound.
Here, actual sound of nature like sound of water, waves, birds and air is used because it is day time shoot
that gives fresh and happy feeling. Both the characters are standing near sea beach and happy and talking
about their daughter’s report which is now clear.

All the dialogues were also in their own voice.

So, this sound and dialogues used for this scene perfectly convey feeling of happiness and freshness
which contrast greatly with the performance.

Scene 2
Sound we can hear in this scene are songs played and sung by character at the time of shoot and source
present on the screen for this scene is called diegetic sound. Christmas song is played on set as there was
a Christmas party, so it was matching with the situation. Everyone present there also sing the song in their
own voice. Everyone is hooting and clapping and create joyful, happy and cheerful feeling. It makes
viewer also feel happy and joyful. Instantly sad song is played to make the situation emotional.

All the dialogues are also in own voice of the characters. No narrator is narrating the story.

So, song and music played in this scene is heard by character at time of shoot and perfectly goes with the
party scene.

Scene 3

Fole Artistic Sound

We can see and hear footsteps of people playing in playground. There is also noise of the ball. These
sounds of footstep and ball is fole artistic sound which is re-created sound and added at the time of editing
because it cannot be properly recorded on the set.

Dialogues are narrated by the narrator in this scene who is explaining the situation already happened in
her life with her own voice and dialogues are simple and of happy feeling.

Music played in the background is Non Diegetic because it is added at time of editing which is cheerful
and joyful.

So, all these sound, music and dialogue are added to create mood for viewer according to the theme of
movie and help to create contrast which help to make the scene perfect.
Scene 4

Non Diegetic Sound

In this scene, the sound is non diegetic which means no original music is present on the screen as we can
see and hear in the movie. Cheerful music is used as the background song because it is a vacation scene
so joyful and cheerful song is played which heightens the scene and make audience excited and joyful.
The original sound is also mixed with sounds like wave of water but most of the time it was non diegetic.
Dialogues are told in the background by narrator Aisha Choudhary to tell and explain about the situation
when it was happening.

So, Non Diegetic sound help the audience to feel more enveloped into the world they are experiencing
like here they are enjoying vacation and sound is perfectly matching with the situation.

Scene 5
Non Diegetic Sound

In this scene, the sound used is non diegetic which means that it is created by human and not naturally
present there as we can see and hear in the movie that it was little suspense like music as the characters
are enjoying ice cream. At the same time, there was also mixture of suspense and enjoyable music in
background.

Dialogues are narrated by the narrator Aisha Choudhary in her own voice.

Many places fole artists sound that is re-created sound is also used like the noise of table and keyboard
sound which can’t be properly recorded on the set and are added after while editing.

So, Non Diegetic and Fole Artist Sound help to make the scene according to the theme of this scene and
create contrast which draw attention of viewer.
How has this course helped you in dissecting these element?

Firstly, I am very grateful for this course and faculty who conducted this. Before this course, I watch
movie for the story but after this course I will watch movie from different perspective.

I will notice all the elements like:

 How light create different mood and help scene according to the theme.
 About shot like mid close up, medium, long and close up shot can be taken according to
character and show their emotion. It also shows elements present in the scene. So, different
shots give different meaning.
 Performance like how character perform and show different expression, body language, style
and technique which help to perform different emotions.
 How camera movements and angles help to give different dimension of the scenes like low
angle, eye level angle, point of view. All of these used for different perspective. Even camera
movement tilt up, tilt down and pan movement are important elements to make the film.

I also learned about editing and its process like dumping, logging, continuity editing which create
continuity in the movie and create rhythm and also about montage editing.

Now, I can differentiate the genre of films, narrator, visual element as well as set design, makeup,
costume hair and props like accessories, symbolism used in films which help to the scenes perfect.

I learned a lot from this course and it totally change my perspective of watching a movie. It also helped
me to analyze the elements of movie, I have learned new things and elements of film. As I am so much
intrested in video editing and in photography .It would be helpful in future for me.
