To talk about things that are not happening at the moment English uses this form:
Example:
1. Are you studying?
2. Is she working?
3. Are we fighting?
6. I am talking to you
When people feel nervous about a new situation or opportunity, it is common to say that the person
has “butterflies” in their stomach.
Let's play!
Cory: So, I asked Liz out earlier today.
Shawn: Really? What did she say?
Cory: She said yes. I was really nervous, though. I had butterflies in my stomach.
Shawn: That’s great. I knew you could do it. Where are you going to take her?
After a long day at work, Liz kicks off her shoes and hops on the couch. She pulls her phone out of
her purse and sends a text to her best friend, Christa. “Guess what?!” she writes. “Cory asked me to
go to dinner with him.” Christa responds a few minutes later, “Oh, my gosh! That’s awesome. You’ve
been talking about him for a while. How did he ask? Were you nervous? I would have had butterflies
in my stomach the whole time.”
A. A dinner date.
B. A movie.
C. A concert
Idiom of the day
Why does Shawn suggest that Cory take some deep breaths before meeting Liz?
