Is science easy or difficult to teach? What areas in Science Should I study in order to teach well? Will the
topics on living things be taught in Grades 4 & 5? What about Force and Motion? Write your answers on
the space provided.
Science has always been a difficult subject to teach in elementary school. If time is running out of the
school day, the very first subject teachers will usually skip is Science. It also seems to be one of the least
liked subjects for young students as well. Depending on the grades they teach, science teachers may be
expected to be knowledgeable about basic ideas and content from at least five academic disciplines:
biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics, and physics. Living things are called organisms. All plants
and animals, including human beings, are organisms. Organisms have many needs to fill in order to stay
alive. As organisms, we get everything we need from our environment in order to survive. If an organism
cannot get what it needs from its environment, it will die. The study of organisms interacting with their
environment is the science of ecology. Force and motion are fundamental to all matter in the universe. A
force is anything that can push or pull on an object. Forces influence objects that are at rest or that are
already in motion. Isaac Newton's three laws of motion involve inertia, mass, velocity, and momentum.

After having seen the coverage of the two science components, what have you observed in the content
outline for each topic: Matter and Living Things and their Environment? Let us understand the
framework by answering questions that refer to the two areas of discipline and how they move along in
the progression from lower to higher grade level.
Answer the simple survey below:

c. maintains
d. static
5. Spiral progression in science means that grade three pupils learn simpler
contents than grade four.
✓ a. This statement is true.
