Emotional Intelligence is the capability of individuals to recognize

their own emotions and those of others, discern between different feelings
and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking
and behaviour, and manage or adjust emotions to adapt to environments
or achieve one’s goal(s).

As leaders, they should be

conscious of how their emotional state is
highly influential on their team’s decision-
making, cognition, and performance.
Thus, I present to you the two persons
who I admire most when it comes to
being emotionally intelligent leaders.

First, my head teacher in Science

Department, Mr. Ryan Noel A. Doña. For
me, he is emotionally intelligent leader
because he does not only understand
your strengths and weaknesses, but he
also recognizes your emotions and the
effect they have on you and your team’s
performance. He always checks our
health during this pandemic and always make us feel that he’s there to
support us. Also, he has the ability to manage his emotions, particularly in
stressful situations, and maintain a positive outlook despite setbacks. He
also has empathy and strive to understand our feelings and perspectives,
which enables him to communicate and collaborate more effectively with
my colleagues. I can still remember how he empathize with me as my
whole family got COVID-19. He always mentor and influence us not only in
our job but to be more productive citizen in the community which makes
him as one of my best head teachers I ever had.

Lastly, Dr. Rodel A. Frias, the

principal of our school. He is unbiased and
always bring positivity in our school. He
always talks to us in a very calm manner
and has empathy too. He can communicate
ideas, information, and requests in very
clear way. I can say he has social
awareness and flexible.

Leaders set the tone of their

organization. If they lack emotional
intelligence, it could have more far-
reaching consequences, resulting in lower
employee engagement and a higher turnover rate. But with these two
people, they all have the characteristics to be called as emotionally
intelligent leader.
