D. Abstraction/ So, Now let’s start our discussion.

Developing mastery
SWOT ANALYSIS Learners will read the
presentation in the
What is SWOT stands for? slide decks

Ok the SWOT, stands for STRENGTH, WEAKNESSES,

OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS.

So, when we say SWOT analysis it is the evaluation of internal and

external environment of a business. In which it is used for the
identification of a firm’s competitive advantage through its
strength, to fix its weaknesses, recognize opportunities for further
growth and possible threats that the business may face.

With regards from these thoughts and ideas that I was discussing
today, what can you say about SWOT? Did you further understand
the concept behind it?

Very good.

As you can see in the SWOT framework, it can utilize the level of
company or the industry level analysis in the company level
analysis, internal factors are inherent to firms and external factors
pertaining to factors in the firm’s industry.

In the SWOT ANALYSIS the and strength and weaknesses are

considered internal to the company. This means that the factors
analyzed are specific to the firm under study. While opportunities
and threats are considered external elements that requires a
business owner to look at factors outside the firm’s control. In
short, external forces affect more than just your company.
So, what did you observe the SWOT analysis concept?

Very good.

Any other idea?

Goods.

Since you understand now the concept of SWOT analysis, we are

going to proceed in the next analysis which is called “PESTLE” in
which stands for Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal,
and Environmental.
When we say PESTLES, it is a tool
in macroenvironment analysis specifies each force or
determinants that impact industries. Depending on a business
capability, there are potentially profitable opportunities that can
be taken advantage of.

So here’s the column of the PESTLES.

POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, TECHNOLOGICAL, LEGAL, AND
ENVIRONMENTAL (PESTLE)

As you can see in the column, we have here the 6 major

components of analysis were:

First is the Political , Second is Economic, third is the Social, fourth

is Technological, Fifth is Legal and sixth is Environmental.

PORTER’S FIVE FORCES

PRINCIPLES OF MANAGING BUSINESS

According to Henri Fayol, all managers perform five functions:

1. Planning
2. Organizing
3. Commanding
4. Coordinating
5. Controlling

applications of Directions: Below is a given scenario of a café business. Based on
concepts and skills the discussion create an analysis of the café business using either The learners will
in daily living Porter’s Five Forces or PESTLE analysis. Choose at least one perform the activity
principle that you will use in the analysis.

Scenario:

The café business is situated on the ground floor of the mall which
is near a school that is found to have heavy foot traffic means more
potential customers. Additionally, the owner assured that all the
baristas are knowledgeable about coffee and are well trained to
provide customized drinks. Being located in a mall, however, has a
drawback, one of which Is the high space rent with limited space
for putting more tables. Having a small capital and burdened with
a high overhead cost, the owner currently cannot open additional
branches or stores.

The owner considers several government regulations as

opportunities because of the potential reduction in operating
expenses. A planned decrease in personal income tax will increase
consumers' disposable income under the TRAIN law. A higher
disposable income allows consumers to spend on wants such as
specialty coffee. Furthermore, a reduction in the price of coffee
beans, which the company sources from the local farmer will
reduce the store’s input prices. The coffee shop has faced more
competition recently due to the expansion of international coffee
brands in the local market. The possibility of imposition of curfew
in the city can potentially cut down profit for the store as well
because operating hours will be reduced.

.
