PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND FITNESS

This lesson will discuss about our physical activities and fitness for the welfare of
our health.

OUR TARGET
At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:
1. determine the frequency of the activities based on physical activity pyramid guide
for Filipino children.
2. perform a physical activity based on the pyramid guide.
3. identify the five principal parts of physical fitness.

TRY
Check ( ✔ ) the tasks if you do it every day, 3-5 times, 2-3 times, or 1 time in a week.
Answer this on SLK answer sheet.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND FITNESS

EXPLORE AND LEARN

The Physical Activity Pyramid Guide for Filipino Children can help a child like
you to become more active. It is based on the Pyramid Guide. It consists of physical
activities divided into four levels where each level refers to the recommended frequency of
performance of various physical activities

Physical activity refers to any

action of the body that requires energy.

This is physical activity that may

be easy or does not require a lot of
energy pouring such as writing, reading,
brushing, and so on. It may also be
difficult or it may require more energy
pouring such as dancing, running,
playing basketball, and so on.

Meanwhile, frequency refers to

the number of times a task is performed.
There are physical activities that are
done more often and there are also those
that are less common to do. The frequency of labor can greatly contribute to the
development of health especially if physical activity tests your body's ability such as
speeding up your heartbeat and breathing. For example, walking should be done more often
than just sitting all day because walking is more conducive to your health than just sitting.

LET’S DISCUSS

If you are currently less active, you should start at the bottom of the pyramid and
gradually increase the activity recommended by the Physical Activity Pyramid Guide for
Filipino Children. It is better if these activities are not done only once but often or if possible,
do it daily. If you are currently active, it may be best to continue the activities you are already
doing or add to them. Remember that you do not have to surprise your body. Feel it for
physical activities to help you more.

Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is an ability of every person to perform daily activities without
getting tired immediately.
Physical fitness has five principal parts. It is also called fitness components.
Fitness Components Meaning/Description Example of Task

SUMMARY
The Physical Activity Pyramid Guide for Filipino Children can help a child like
you to become more active. It is important to consider what to do and how often
it will be done to improve health.
The activities that can be done are not limited to the recommended activities
in the pyramid. Other activities may be added to the recommended frequency of
activities such as playing other sports and other physical activities.

getting tired immediately.

MAJOR NUTRIENTS AND FOOD LABELS

LESSON 4
LET’S GO OVER
MAJOR NUTRIENTS AND FOOD LABELS
People look at food labels for different reasons. But whatever the reason, many
consumers would like to know how to use this information more effectively and easily.
Being aware of the food label teaches the consumers to choose the right food to keep oneself
strong and healthy. This SLK will discuss abut major nutrients that our body need and food
labels.

OUR TARGET
At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:
1. identify the major nutrients that the body need.
2. determine the major nutrient content of given food.
3. recognize the information provided the food label.

HEALTH 4 FIRST QUARTER – LESSON 4
MAJOR NUTRIENTS AND FOOD LABELS

EXPLORE AND LEARN

MAJOR NUTRIENTS
Carbohydrates give energy to your body. Foods that are rich in carbohydrates
include rice, bread, sweet potato (camote), and more.
Proteins make your bones and muscles grow. They are body-building foods. These
include lean meat, poultry, cheese, egg, milk, nuts, and others.
Fats is the major storage form of energy in the body. Fats allow you to absorb
certain vitamins called fat-soluble vitamins, protect organs, help maintain your body
temperature, and insulate you. Fats can provide your body with energy. Healthy
unsaturated fats include fatty fish, nuts, seeds, and avocados while frozen dinners, red
meat, and fast food contain unhealthy saturated and trans fats.
Vitamins help regulate chemical reactions in the body. Vitamins are divided into
two categories based on how your body absorbs them-fat-soluble and water-soluble. The
fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins A, D, E, and K and the water-soluble vitamins are
vitamin C and the B vitamins.
Water is a vital nutrient for good health. Most of your body weight (60-70%) is
made up of water. Water helps control your body temperature, carries nutrients and
waste products from your cells, and is needed for your cells to function.
Minerals are considered inorganic compounds because they come from soil and
water, rather than living things. Minerals help regulate body functions and allow your
tissues to grow. Like vitamins, minerals are divided into two categories-trace minerals and
major minerals. The trace minerals include iron, zinc, copper, selenium, chromium, iodine,
fluoride, manganese, and molybdenum. The major minerals include calcium, magnesium,
potassium, sodium, chloride, and phosphorus.

ACCENTED PULSE AND UNACCENTED PULSE

LESSON 5
LET’S GO OVER
ACCENTED PULSE AND UNACCENTED PULSE
This SLK will discuss the different accented and unaccented pulse in musical
compositions.

OUR TARGET
At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:
1. describe accented and unaccented pulses.
2. identify accented and unaccented pulses.
3. recognize metric accents note in different time signature.

TRY
Let’s sing “Ano-ano”

EXPLORE AND LEARN

A pulse is one of a series of regularly recurring, precisely equivalent stimuli.
It comparable to the tick of a watch, heartbeat, pulses mark off equal units in
the temporal range. A song in a musical composition has pulse in which you can
hear a strong and weak sound. These strong
and weak sounds refer to accented and
unaccented notes.
While ideal pulses are identical, when
pulses are variously accented, this produces
two- or three-pulse pulse groups such as
strong-weak and strong-weak-weak and
any longer group may be broken into such
groups of two and three.

MUSIC 4 FIRST QUARTER – LESSON 5
ACCENTED PULSE AND UNACCENTED PULSE
Accented notes – are emphasized notes. They are usually “strong” notes. Symbolizes with
“>”.
Unaccented notes – are regular notes. They occur “weak” notes.

LET’S DISCUSS
Metric accents
These are accents that naturally occur with each time signature, or meter.
Essentially, the downbeat of each measure (beat 1) is always the strongest. Other beats
are accented less. The beat 1 in metric accent does NOT require the symbol “ >” to indicate
it was accented.

SUMMARY

Accented note has “>” symbol above or below them. Metric accents are having
naturally accented notes which is the first beat.
