The beautiful moon has always been part of enchanting evenings. It has
been likened to goddesses. The silvery moon and its moonbeams have inspired
poetry. Together with the stars, it proclaims the glory of the creator through the
night.

IV. PROCEDURES:
A. ELICIT
The teacher let the students recall on what was the topic yesterday all about?
Answer: Eclipse: Lunar and Solar eclipse
How does lunar eclipse occur? The solar eclipse?
Answer: The lunar eclipse occurs when the earth is in between the sun and moon.
The solar eclipse occurs when the moon is in between the sun and earth.

B. ENGAGE
The teacher asks the students on what they usually hear from their
parents/grandparents when there is an eclipse?
C. EXPLORE
Before the students perform the activity, the teacher will present important words
such as:
Vocabulary
Beliefs- a feeling of being sure that someone or something exists or that
something is true
Bakunawa- is a serpent-like dragon

Our topic for today is about “Eclipse”. Our objective is to collect, record, and
report data on the beliefs and practices of the community in relation to eclipse. The
teacher gives the instructions on the activity to be performed by the students. Please
refer to learners’ material in Science 7 pp. 357-358. (Activity 13 “Does a bakunawa
cause eclipses?”).

Teaching Part:
The unnatural and eerie color of the sun and the moon during their eclipses may
seem fearsome to some people. The sun’s disappearance in a solar eclipse has been
connected to some frightening event. It is a sing of impending famine and hunger. In the
Philippines, it is an ancient belief that bakunawa causes eclipses. Some cultures fast
during an eclipse. Some countries believe that according to the myth, the mighty sun and
the brilliant moon fight during an eclipse and it is up to the humans to encourage.

Therefore, based on the activity and the discussion, what are some of the
superstitious beliefs in the Philippines when there is an eclipse?
