 1 (main) ringer/power unit in position 9;
 1 redundant ringer/power unit in position 10 (option);
 1 integrated line test unit ILTAUS in position 11 (option);
 1 CNCC unit in position 16 (option);
 1 Q1 extension unit QEXA in position 17 (option);
 the other positions can be equipped with the necessary units to build up to 3
multiplexer systems, as indicated below.
Multiplexer 1 is equipped in the positions 1 to 4 :
 1 (master) PCMC unit in position 4;
 the CSU's are mounted in the positions 1 to 3 :
 the CSU in position 1 is connected to the internal bus 2;
 the CSU's in position 2 and 3 are connected to the internal bus 1.
Multiplexer 2 is equipped in the positions 5 to 8 :
 1 (master) PCMC unit in position 5;
 the CSU's are mounted in the positions 6 to 8 :
 the CSU's in position 6 and 7 are connected to the internal bus 1;
 the CSU in position 8 is connected to the internal bus 2.
Multiplexer 3 is equipped in the positions 10 to 15 :
 1 (master) PCMC unit in position 15;
 the CSU's are mounted in the positions 10 to 14 :
 the CSU's in position 10 to 12 are connected to the internal bus 2;
 the CSU's in position 13 and 14 are connected to the internal bus 1.
Remarks :
 in case of channel drop and insert, a slave PCM controller unit can be mounted in the
positions 3, 6 and 14 for multiplexer 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
 the subrack is primarily intended to be used with channel units (CSU's) with 10 or 15
channels per unit (or occupying 10 or 15 time slots on the internal bus). However,
other channel units can be mounted as well. Channel units with different signalling
types can be combined in one subrack and in one multiplexer.
 when the channels on the CSU's occupy more than 30 time slots, at least one CSU
should be placed in such a position that the corresponding channels are connected to
bus 2. In this way the system configuration can be adapted, if required, by means of
man-machine commands only and without the need to rearrange the subrack layout.
 auxiliary units, if required, can be placed on any of the remaining places.
 In case 1511BA with clock protection a slave PCM controller unit can be mounted:
 in position 3 for multiplexer 1
 in position 6 for multiplexer 2
 in position 14 for multiplexer 3

overcurrent.
 provide an EMC filter on BAT1 and BAT2
 protect the boards in this subrack from transients and surges on the battery power
supplies.
 give urgent and non-urgent alarm signals.
The alarm contacts of the circuit breakers are combined and are available as urgent or
non-urgent alarm contacts to a common return.
Non-urgent alarm is given when one of both circuit breakers is switched off. Urgent
alarm is given when both circuit breakers are switched off.
The non-urgent alarm closes in a non-urgent alarm condition. The urgent alarm contact
opens in a urgent alarm condition.

Specifications of the circuit breakers

The unit is equipped with circuit breakers on the BAT1 and BAT2 voltages with following
specifications :
 Current rating : 5 A
 Maximum resistance : 30 mΩ
 Nominal voltage rating : 72 VDC
 Short circuit breaking capacity : 1000 A at 72 VDC
 Isolation resistance : 100 MΩ at 500 VDC
 Dielectric strenght : 2kV AC

6 Setting of the system addresses

Up to 3 multiplexer systems can be mounted on this subrack. The Q1 bus addresses for
the systems on the subrack are set by means of switches on the QEXA unit in position 17.
For some general information, refer to section 3 of the manual : installation.

Note The addresses can also be set by means of switches on the backpanel of the
subrack : however, this method can only be used on the following conditions :
 the CNCC is mounted on the subrack;
 there is no need to extend the Q1 bus to other subracks;
 the other functionalities of the QEXA unit (access for synchronization clock
input or output, access for auxiliary alarm inputs) are not required.

If the address setting is realized by means of the switches on the QEXA unit, all
ATTENTION switches on the backpanel of the subrack have to be open.

7 System address setting by means of QEXA

The addressing is realized by means of the switches S301 and S302 (Enable A) and S401
and S402 (Enable B) on the QEXA unit (see figure 1).
This subrack enables different exploitation modes :
 in normal exploitation 1 PCM controller unit of each multiplexer system can be
addressed (the master);
 an alternative exploitation enables to address 2 PCM controller units of each
multiplexer system.

Normal exploitation
4 consecutive numbers (within the same group of 8) are assigned to the subrack. Selection
is achieved by setting 5 switches in the ON position :
 one switch of S301 is set to ON to select a group of 8 addresses (the other switches of
S301 and all switches of S302 are set to OFF);
 the first 4 switches of S401 are set to ON if the first 4 addresses of the group have to
be used (the other switches of S401 and all switches of S402 are set to OFF);
 the 4 switches of S402 are set to ON if the last 4 addresses of the group have to be
used (all switches of S401 are set to OFF).

By closing all switches on S701 and S702, the addresses 1 to 8 are assigned to the units of
the subrack in the following way :
 address 1 belongs to the PCM controller unit in position 4 (1st multiplexer : master)
and the main ringer power unit RGPA in position 9;
 address 2 belongs to the PCM controller unit in position 5 (2nd multiplexer : master)
