Abstract. This study aims to describe the role of Whatsapp in PPKn learning
during the Covid-19 Pandemic at SMA Veteran 1 Sukoharjo. This research is a
descriptive qualitative research, so the researcher will use qualitative data and
then describe it descriptively. Researchers conducted interviews and made a
closed questionnaire. In this study, there were 61 respondents consisting of PPKn
teachers and class XI students at SMA Veteran 1 Sukoharjo. The results of the
research are, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the world of education requires the
use of distance learning or often referred to as online learning. Online learning is
carried out by utilizing application features available on smartphones. As many
as 93.4% of respondents stated that the Whatsapp application is an application
that is easier to use for online learning than other applications. The Whatsapp
application plays a very important role in the online PPKn learning process at
SMA Veteran 1 Sukoharjo. The whatsapp application is useful as a means of
communication between teachers and students. This can be seen from the teaching
and learning process that utilizes the features available in the Whatsapp
application such as sending material, assignments, attendance, and others. Apart
from that the whatsapp application does not really require a lot of quota to use, as
well as easy-to-use features that make this application very familiar among
students. However, the use of the Whatsapp application in online learning has
obstacles, namely the internet signal network that is not strong enough or
inadequate considering that students have different living areas.
