DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, pupils are expected to:
 illustrate the different properties of equations, and
 identify the properties being used.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic: Properties of Equations
b. Materials: PowerPoint presentation and Nets of a Solid figure in a model form.
c. References: Habijan, et al, iMath6 K to 12 Curriculum Series, pp. 208-213
e. Value: Critical thinking and Creativity
f. Core Value: Efficiency

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher's Activities Pupils' Activities
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
 PRAYER
-Before we start let’s have a prayer.
-Who wants to lead the prayer? (One of the pupils will lead the prayer.)

Father God, as we start this new day for new learning,

we ask for your guidance.
Lead us all the way. May you let us see through your
eyes, listen through your ears, and speak with your
mouth. Be with us as we explore the world.
Give us the heart to love and be kind to one another.
Please watch over all our teachers, children, and
families. In Jesus’ name. Amen
 GREETINGS
-Good morning, Grade VI! -Good afternoon, teacher!
-How are you today? -We're fine, thank you! How about you?
-I'm good, thank you.

 CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
Class, I will check the attendance first. Tell the name of
the solid figure that you have get earlier as I call your (The students will participate on the activity)
name.

- ENERGIZER

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
 DRILL

 REVIEW -(The students will participate on the activity)

-In mathematics, what is the last lesson that we
tackled? -Yes ma’am
-What can you give the different symbols for the
fundamental operations?

It seems that you are already know the last topic that
we discuss.
 MOTIVATION

C. LESSON PROPER
 ACTIVITY
Give the opposite of each equation.
Like for example
b+a = a+b

23+28=
97+45=
56+45=
29+38=
78+49=

From this activity what did you infer? The word commute means to go back and forth. If
two numbers are added or multiplied in any order,
 ANALYSIS they give the same result.
What is commutative property?

For example:
a+b=b+a
ab = ba a. 10 + 6 = 6 + 10
b. (-2) (9) = (9) (-2)
What is the missing number?

a. 10 + 6 = 6 + ____
b. (-2) (9) = _____(-2)

What is Associative Property?

For example:

(a + b) + c = a (b + c)
(ab) + c = a + (bc)

Use the associative property to complete the missing a. 8 + ( -5 + 4) = (8 + -5) + 4

number. b. [8 • (-6)] • 3 = 8 • [(-6 • 3)]

a. 8 + ( -5 + 4) = (8 +____) + 4
b. [8 • (-6)] • 3 = 8 •______

In the same way, parenthesis also can be left out of

many multiplication problems.

For example:
a. 12 + (-20 + 10) = [12 + (-20)] +10
12 + (-10) = (-8) + 10 (9 + 24) + 8 = 9 + (24 + 8)
2=2 33 + 8 = 9 + 32
Answer the following expressions using associative 41 = 41
property.
[(7 •20) • 6] = [7 •(20 • 6)]
a. (9 + 24) + 8 = 9 + (24 + 8) 140 • 6 = 7 • 120
840 = 840

Identity property of a real number is left unchanged

b. [(7 •20) • 6] = [7 •(20 • 6)] when identity properties are applied.

Can you define identity property?

For example:
a+0=a and 0+a=a
a•1=a and
1• a=a

Example:

a. 7 + 0 = 7

b. 2 • 1 = 1 • 2
3 3
a. 4 • 5 =
5 4
What is inverse property?
-6 + 6
Use inverse property to the following: =
7 7
a. 4 • 5 = 1
5 4

b. -6 + 6 = 0
7 7

What is Distributive Property?

For example:

a. 4 (5 + 6) = 4 • 5 + 4 • 6 a. 8 (10 + 5) = 8 10 + 8 5
= 20 + 24
= 44
Use the distributive property to rewrite each
expression.

b. 8 (10 + 5) = 8 • 10 + 8 • 5 1. m
= 80 + 40 2. 5
=120 3. 2y
4. 0
 FIXING SKILLS
1
1. mn=n_____ 5. 2
2. 3 + (4 + 5) – (3 + 4) + _____
3. 3 ( x + 2y) = 3x +
4. (5a) b = 5 (ab)

5. 1 (5) = 5 (_____)
2

 ABSTRACTION
-Again class, what is commutative property?

How about associative property?

The identity of a real numbers is left unchanged when

identity properties is what?

What is inverse property?

1. 162
How about distributive property? 2. 10

 APPLICATION 3. 0
1. 162 + 356 = 356 +
2. 10 + 0 =
4. 1

3. 8 + 7 =
9 8 5. =180
4. 6 + 7 =
7 6

5. 9 (15 + 5) = 9 • 15 + 9 • 5
= 135 + 45
=180

IV. EVALUATION

V. ASSISGNMENT
(For your assignment)
With the use of cellphone or other gadgets that you have. I want you to capture the nets of a solid figure in a
real objects.
