Good morning sir.

I am Mary Ann S. Ogoy from BSN 1A and today I will be demonstrating the hand washing.

The materials would include the running water but as u can see I don’t have faucet here that’s why I ask
my cousin to just scoop the water from the basin, also we need soap, towel to dry our hands but if we
don’t have towel we can also use tissue paper, also the blue stick but unfortunately I don’t have blue
stick here so instead of blue stick I will just use nail pusher to remove the dirt from our fingertips.

So after ensuring that we complete the materials needed we need to ensure that we remove and secure
all loose items and this will include our IDs, necktie, wrist watches, and jewelries. To avoid loose items
from contamination.

So if we are wearing sleeves we should roll them above our elbow so that the area that we need to wash
was exposed.

And it’s very important to keep the water running while performing hand washing and we need to
ensure that it is warm so that we can avoid removing all necessary oil from our hands.

So we need to open the faucet and adjust the flow of the water but as I mentioned earlier I don’t have
faucet here so my cousin will just scoop the water from the basin instead.

And now we need to ensure that we maintain distance from the sink and we should avoid getting in
contact with any object from the sink.

So now we wet our hands thoroughly by holding them under the running water.

Now in doing this we need to make sure that our hands and forearms are lower than our elbow at all
times and of course we need to leave the water flowing during the procedure.

We now get the soap, rinse it and apply it firmly by rubbing it between our hands and in a rotary motion
on the back of each hands and wrist.

After applying the soap of course we need to rinse it and drop it back to the soap dish without touching
the object.

Now we are ready to lather our hands using firm rubbing and circular movement on we start in both
palms, next is back of the palms and wrists, interlace fingers and thumbs Interlace fingers and thumbs
giving special attention to areas between the fingers moving hands back and forth.

Next is inter locked knuckles we rub our finger tips on each knuckles, and then we rubbed our fingertips
the palm of each opposite hand.

After rubbing our finger tips we now go to the rotational rubbing of the thumb, right and left.

Next is our wrists. And if necessary we need to get the blue stick but unfortunately I don’t have blue
stick here so instead I will use the nail pusher as the replacement and rinse it under the running water.
So this is the nail pusher and rinse it before using, and we use this to clean each of the nail with blue
stick or nail pusher.
After this we rinse the nail pusher or the blue under the running water and drop it back from the soap
dish.

Now we’re ready to rinse, so holding your forearms lower than your elbows, rinse thoroughly starting
from the elbow and moving down the hands.

After rinsing our hands we need to let it hang down to maintain hands and forearms as it drips off the
water.

Now we have to avoid shaking hands and arms.

Now in drying our hands thoroughly we use clean towel or disposable paper towel and we path dry from
fingers to forearms in one arm that such, we make sure that we dry our other hands by using the other
part of the towel using the same technique.

Lastly we need to turn off the water using the towel or piece of tissue paper to prevent hand from
getting in contact with the faucet knob.

And of course don’t forget to discard the use tissue paper in a trash bin if any and avoid in getting
contact of hands with the trash bin.

Now we are done in performing medical hand washing.
