USED TO, WOULD BE, GET/BE USED TO

I. LÝ THUYẾT:
1. USED TO + V-inf
a. Usage(cách dùng):

Cấu trúc “Used to + V-inf” được sử dụng để nói về một thói quen, hành động, sự kiện hoặc
trạng thái đã từng xảy ra trong quá khứ và không còn xảy ra trong hiện tại nữa.

b. Formula(công thức):
Thể Cấu trúc Ví dụ
He used to play football for the local team,
(+) S + used to + V (nguyên thể) but he’s too old now.
(Anh ấy từng chơi bóng đá cho đội bóng
địa phương, nhưng giờ anh ấy quá già rồi)
It didn’t use to be so crowded in the shops
(-) S + didn’t use to + V (nguyên thể) as it is nowadays.
( Các cửa hàng ngày trước không đông đúc
như bây giờ)
I think we met once, a couple of years
ago. Did you use to work with Kevin
(?) Did + S + use to + V (nguyên thể)? Harris?

c. Lưu ý:
1. Phủ định của cấu trúc used to V có thể được viết dưới dạng used not to V. Ví dụ:
 I used not to go swimming.
 She used not to drink that much coffee.
2. Trong câu hỏi đuôi với cấu trúc Used to V, ta dùng trợ động từ DID. Ví dụ:
 He used to be your boss, didn’t he?
 We used to love going to the museum, didn’t we?

3. Phân biệt Used to + V với Would + V

Ta có thể dùng “used to” hoặc “would” để nói về thói quen trong quá khứ.
Khi dùng cả hai, used to sẽ mở đầu, sau đó tới loạt hành động, sự việc dùng với “would”

Ví dụ:
When we were kids, we used to invent amazing games. We would imagine we were the government and
we would make crazy laws that everyone had to obey.

Would + V không dùng để chỉ trạng thái

(Động từ trạng thái là các động từ diễn tả trạng thái, tình trạng của một người hoặc một
vật: like, love, believe, know, understand, have, prefer, hate,…)
Ví dụ:
 We used to live in Manchester (Chúng tôi từng sống ở Manchester, bây giờ không còn ở nữa ) . >
Not: We would live in Manchester. (Chúng tôi sẽ sống ở Manchester.)
 ‘The Townhouse’ used to be a Greek restaurant. It’s Italian now. > Not: 'The Townhouse’ would
be a Greek restaurant …

2. BE USED TO + V-ing (Đã quen với)

a. Usage(cách dùng):

Cấu trúc “Be used to + V-ing” được sử dụng để diễn tả ai đó đã từng làm 1 việc gì đó nhiều
lần và đã có kinh nghiệm, không còn lạ lẫm với việc đó nữa

b. Formula(công thức):

(+) S + is/are/am + used to + V-ing (Tôi đã quen với việc dậy muộn buổi sáng.)

(?) Is/Are/Am + S + used to + V-ing (Cô ấy có quen với việc nấu ăn không?)

3. GET USED TO + V-ing (Dần quen với)

a. Usage(cách dùng):

Cấu trúc “Get used to + V-ing” được sử dụng để diễn tả ai đó đang dần quen với 1 thói
quen/sự việc nào đó

b. Formula(công thức):

(?) Do/does + S + get used to + V-ing/N (Tom đã quen với việc lái xe bên tay trái

4. Phân biệt Used to + V với Get/Be used to + V-ing
Used to + V Get/Be used to + V-ing

Với cấu trúc Used to + V, hành động luôn trong
quá khứ
E.g: She used to sing in a choir, but she gave it
up. (Cô ấy đã hát nhưng giờ thì không)
“Be used to” và “get used to” có thể được dùng ở tất
cả các thì (quá khứ, hiện tại, tương lai)
 You will soon get used to living alone.
 When we lived in Bangkok, we were used to
hot weather.

Theo sau cấu trúc Used to là động từ NGUYÊN
THỂ
E.g: We used to live there when I was a child.
(Chúng tôi đã từng sống ở đó khi tôi còn là một
đứa trẻ.)
Cả hai cấu trúc ‘be used to’ và ‘get used to’ đều theo
sau bởi danh từ hoặc danh động từ (động từ đuôi -ing)
 I work in a hospital, so I’m used to long
hours. (quen với giờ làm việc dài - cụm danh từ)
 He was a salesman, so he was used
to travelling up and down the country. 
(quen với việc di chuyển - V-ing)
