Action Points
1. Respond to consumer demand for reassurance
with technical innovation and holistic protective
qualities: metals such as copper and silver will
uptrend thanks to their hypoallergenic and anti-
microbial benefits. As #facemasks become the new
norm, aesthetics and performance qualities that
tackle multiple concerns will be key.
2. Continue to invest in the post-pandemic shift
towards a flexible work-leisure lifestyle: elevate core
investment pieces with versatile designs, quality
materials and transseasonal tones.
3. Design for digital: following lockdowns, digital-
based activities have become a safer way to
connect and be entertained. Tapping into the rise of
above-the-keyboard dressing, textured materials, 3D
designs and bright tones are key to standing out.
4. Extend the appeal of utilitarian designs with
casual and elegant styles: the #futurecommuter will
favour #modulardesigns with weather-resistant
qualities and light materials.
5. Focus on the rising interest in traditional
wisdom, and continue to invest in sustainable
materials: take inspiration from historical designs
and ancient talismans, and turn to nature to
develop plant-based materials and recycle plastic
waste.

Business Casual
The concept: The post-pandemic shift towards a more flexible
work schedule evolves previous limitarian designs with a
tailored yet comfortable focus. This concept balances the
formal appeal of the office wardrobe with a softer aesthetic,
resulting in designs that can also be worn at home.
Materials: Driven by the 'buying less, but better' ethos, prime
materials are a must for investment purchases that will stand
the test of time. For bags, belts and footwear, use soft nappa,
smooth box leather or introduce plant-based and
#recycledmaterials, as seen at Alkeme Atelier.

Colour: Neutral tones like Unbleached and Golden Harvest are
key for core transseasonal appeal, and add a subtle statement
to glass, mineral stones and acetate for jewellery and eyewear.

and safety concerns that have arisen from the
pandemic. As consumers lead a more digital life, the
negative effects caused by radiation from electronic
devices will also be a concern, as addressed by Bia
Tambelli with her mineral stones AirPods charm.
Materials: Silver, copper and brass have
hypoallergenic and antimicrobial benefits that can
reduce risks from touching surfaces. The Brass
Distance Key by Mexican brand Tane shows how this
is being used on a luxury level for accessories.
Details: Solution-driven designs are key, such as
oversized protective structures on eyewear frames.

Everyday Utility
The concept: Driven by the needs of the #futurecommuter, the
utilitarian aesthetic of last season's Off-Grid Survivalist is
updated with a more refined yet technical aesthetic.
Materials: A sense of lightweight endurance is conveyed with
recycled nylon, smooth box leather, plant-based materials and
wire eyewear frames. Use utilitarian hardware and oversized
chains for jewellery to add a contrasting statement in silver –
this material will gain pace thanks to its antimicrobial
qualities.
Details: Modular constructions and adjustable hardware offer

The concept: The appeal of the #softvolume trend extends to

S/S 22 as consumers prioritise comfort and softness in
designs. Padded structures and 3D silhouettes are key for
enhancing cushioned effects, evolving last season's minimalist
aesthetic with a cosier look.
Materials: Use soft leather or plant-based materials for padded
and woven designs in bags and footwear, as seen at Spanish
brand Hereu. Add texture to update clear solid materials such
as glass and lucite.
Colour: Versatile pastels enhance the soft look of this theme,
as seen in the jewellery designs of Corey Moranis.

Design for Digital
The concept: As we continue to conduct our daily life digitally,
items that stand out on screen will be essential. Texture, colour
and statement silhouettes are key for differentiation in the vast
world of online retail. Called out as a key trend for S/S 20,
above-the-keyboard dressing will see drop earrings and hair
accessories remain as must-have items.
Materials: Use materials with tactile and chromatic effects to
enhance textured surfaces and constructions. Stones such as
opals, fluorescent diamonds and fluorite tap into the demand
for transformative qualities. Modular design is key for offering

and sustainable direction. Use ethically sourced soft nappa,

for silver and copper, which are this season's hero metals.
