Motivation Letter for Applying for Admission to the Online MBA program at the University of South
Dakota

Dear Sir/Madam,

//Introduction about myself and previous achievements/experiences://

I am an ambitious person with high hopes for a bright future and career. I have completed my
undergraduate studies at the University of Kalamoon, Syria, in 2010, earning a degree in Electronics and
Communications Engineering. After that, I worked two-years as a Radio Frequency Engineer, during that,
many colleagues and customers always noted that I have excellent communication skills and many
advised me to have a role that is more involved in interpersonal skills and interacting with people. Since
then, I decided to switch careers and moved to sales, I joined my current employer, /name of company/,
as a technical sales representative and now I hold a position of Sales Supervisor. Gladly, I am expecting a
promotion to sales manager soon.

In parallel, I have also started attending part-time MBA program in 2011 at the King Fahd University of
Petroleum and Minerals. Unfortunately, I dropped in 2014 since my latter position as a Sales Supervisor
involved frequent travelling inside and outside the kingdom. This have made it impossible for me to
attend classes as required. The inflexibility of the program didn’t allow me to keep going.

//why I want to study MBA//

My determination and reasons for obtaining an MBA degree hadn’t changed a bit. I know I need the set
of skills to have more understanding of how organizations work, how to understand different
environments and how to make informed decisions and take calculated risks.

Being in sales, this set of skills are vital to climb up in the organizational charts. A person working in sales
have to completely understand the capabilities of his/her organization. And sales people also give
important inputs to upper management and help plan the future and build strategies.

//how the MBA will help me//

Since I have completed part of the MBA at KFUPM, I already know firsthand how those skills are directly
relevant to what I do at work. For example, being literate in accounting, when we want to start dealing
with a new company that is publically listed, I can go and read their balance sheets to know if they’re
doing financially well. Another instance, we had a problem calculating shipping costs for a big
government deal where we had to ship goods that were to come from multiple sources and to be
delivered to multiple destinations; what I learned in linear programming problem solving helped exactly
determine to ship those goods in the most cost-efficient way.

//why I chose USD//

My decision to apply to the online MBA program to USD was based on multiple factors, those include
reputation of the university, the AACSB accreditation, flexibility and the affordability.

//future plan//

In the future, I plan to become an executive at my current employer, I plan to reach that position within
the next 5 years. I am confident that the MBA degree from USD will enforce this claim and will make me
better qualified for it.

Sincerely,
