Statement of Purpose – University of South Florida

It is no surprise that the world has been dealing with increased competition in the corporate world as each
year passes by. The quality of education has enhanced over time and thus people has now expertized themselves in
providing the goods and services and fulling the market needs in such manner that would also increase the
profitability of the company. Thus, in order to survive in this fierce competitive corporate world, it is essential to
educate ourselves and gain experiences from the right field of work, so that we can stand out from others and reach
the highest peak in our career.

Thereby I, (…….), would like to apply for the Postgraduate Degree in Master of Business Administration
(MBA) at University of South Florida, USA.

I am from Bangladesh and currently residing in the capital city of the country, Dhaka – a crowded small
city, but each corner filled with love and innovation. My previous educational background includes the completion
of my O’ Levels (2011) and A’ Levels (2013) from The Aga Khan School, Dhaka, and a Bachelor’s degree in BA
(Hons) in International Management from FTMS Global College, Malaysia – affiliated with Anglia Ruskin
University, UK – in the year 2014. After all the hard work and many sleepless nights, I successfully graduated with
a First-Class Honors. 2 of my highest achievements of my undergraduate years are – firstly, my dissertation on “The
Impacts of Environmental Reporting on the Firms’ Performances”, which was presented in ASCENT 2016 (an
annual scholarly conference) and later published in the University Research Journal and International Journal of
Accounting & Business Management; secondly, my ‘Best Student Award’ of the department which I received on my
convocation.

Right after my under-graduation, I decided to come back to Bangladesh and gather a solid work experience
before I start pursuing my master’s degree. Hence, I started my first job as a Marketing and Sales Executive in an
Import and Export company called Wagoner Associates. But a major boost in my career was when I decided to
change the work sector and landed myself a job as a Consultant for a program in an International NGO – Global
Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle
the human suffering caused by malnutrition. As a Consultant, I supported the Adolescent Nutrition program which
works toward improving adolescents of Bangladesh’s nutritional status, by utilizing my business and
communication skills and knowledge to strategize and help building and strengthening effective communication
methods through which the voices of the adolescents were heard and addressed. Moreover, I took interest in
producing communication materials for other programs too, such as photographing events, shooting and editing
videos and producing BCC materials. This created a great hype in the Bangladesh office as well as got appreciated
by the global team; thus, soon enough, my job description expanded to producing communication materials for the
Bangladesh team and representing GAIN Bangladesh as its Communication Focal.

I would like to take a quick moment to also mention my own project of establishing a café here in Dhaka.
While I was already working a 9 to 5 job, I wanted push myself a bit more and really wanted to pour my heart and
creativity into something of my own. Hence, took the birth of Café Zodiac – a small but warm neighborhood café
situated in Dhaka. This journey of building something of my own and that too from scratch, has been indeed a
roller-coaster ride but it has also been the most learning experience for me.

In the last years of my career, I realized that in order to manage any department of a company, a diverse
amount of knowledge is highly required. While I already have my Bachelor degree in International Management, I
realized to successfully progress my way to a better managerial position, I need myself equipped with the right and
diverse knowledge and experience. Thus, I decided to carry out my further education in Master of Business
Administration (MBA) – specifically from University of South Florida. While I looked into other universities’
courses and its curriculum, USF’s MBA curriculum stood out to me the most. Studying MBA from USF would
mean expanding my leadership development and engaging experimental learning as their courses require solid team
collaborations for all sort of researches, analyzing case studies, presentations and more. What pulled me more
toward USF’s MBA is its networking opportunities – the chance to not only network during our courses but also
through the several events hosted by the university; for example, the Corporate Connections events. As a
professional with an MBA degree, it is highly important for us to expand our network in this competitive corporate
world and USF helps us to rightly do so. Last but not the least, the course gives the opportunity to study on a global
approach – meaning the opportunity to study abroad and experience a global work setup. This is absolutely a cherry
on top for a student like me coming from a developing country such as Bangladesh, as nothing screams international
experience more than having the opportunity to study in different international setups and have a first-hand
experience of the global market and its international issues in terms of business.

This course will not only enhance my marketability as a professional, but also help me strengthen my
leadership and managerial skills and further flourish my interpersonal skills as well – and that is solely because of all
the courses that is offers, such as Managerial Decision Analysis, Organizational Behavior & Leadership,
Communication Skills for Managers, and more. It is no secret that the job market is more difficult and competitive
for a woman – especially in developing countries, such as Bangladesh. Hence, educating ourselves and equipping us
with the required skills, experience, and knowledge is important now, more than ever. Thereby, I truly believe an
MBA degree from a topnotch university such as USF will help me shine and standout amongst my competitors and
give a great boost to my career. Overall, this course will help me understand better on how a company operates, how
to lead a team or organization, and relate better with the real world.

Moreover, the opportunity to study in a multicultural environment, will allow me to be vaster culturally
experienced – in terms of both educational and regional environment – which is highly required to work in today’s
corporate world with the rapid pace of globalization. Hence, I decided to apply to University of South Florida,
especially to its business school - Muma College of Business. USF is known for offering a distinguished faculty,
outstanding academics, world-class interdisciplinary research and a diverse student body – which simply ticks all the
boxes for me. While its high-quality standards, multi-cultural environment, and year-round warm, sunny weather
gives me the assurance that I will have one of the best campus-life experiences, its business schools and the MBA
curriculum is what pulls me toward this university even more. Studying and experiencing the academic field in
University of South Florida will be nothing but a rewarding experience. The faculty of Muma College of Business
are further known to be mending and molding graduates in such a way that they become very fine professionals in
the business world. The university has been preparing students to take on leadership roles in business, academia, and
society. Studying here will further develop and enhance skills which are highly demanded in the labor markets and
additionally let me exploit market opportunities. Coming from a developing country such as Bangladesh, studying in
such a university where the community is so multicultural and vibrant, will help me understand the global context
even better.

After pursuing my Bachelor’s degree from Malaysia and gaining solid years for work experience, I had to
decide on which country and university to approach in order to pursue an MBA degree. Although USA was one of
my top choices, I still decided to do some research and make a final decision. And I am glad that I did carry out my
research because at this point, I really am convinced that this will be the best place for me to continue my higher
education. Firstly, this country has known to be one of the most popular hubs amongst international students – not
only because it is completely an alluring place to study, but the degrees gained from universities here are prestigious
and globally accepted and that is a big attraction for the international students too. Universities here are known to be
facilitated with highest quality research and teaching departments. Furthermore, when researching on USA and its
universities, one of the factors that got me super excited is the country’s beautiful diversification of people and their
culture. Its historical landmarks and enriched culture and entertainment are something that would make this learning
experience even more remarkable. Studying here would make it an ideal choice especially for individual women like
me, starting their brand-new journey all by themselves. Thereby, USA would be the perfect place for pursuing an
MBA degree from.
Furthermore, USA is known to be the ultimate hub of boosting one’s career growth and help reach for the
highest star in sky. Hence, if I am given the opportunity to spur my professional life here in the US, I would grab it
in a heartbeat. But more importantly, my aim is to contribute my skills and knowledge to my homeland –
Bangladesh. Despite of Bangladesh being a developing country, it still has numerous opportunities to exploit. Thus,
to establish myself as an individual, an MBA degree from a well-recognized US university would be an excellent
addition to my CV. Seeing my father flourish into a successful businessman, I was constantly motivated to join the
corporate field and explore the endless possibilities. While undertaking my undergraduate degree, it slowly gave me
a clearer picture as to why my father always relished in this field and thus, I carried on with my journey in exploring
myself and discovering what tasks attracts me the most. I often found myself enjoying studying either strategic
management, or coming up with ideas for promotional activities, or even in the field of communication. Thus, my
main target is to establish myself in the field of Management and grow my professional life in a well reputed
International Company or in an International NGO, after I complete my MBA. Moreover, as the eldest and the only
daughter, I have plethora of responsibilities toward my family. Thus, an MBA degree would not only help me get
employed into well-known local firms or in multinational companies, but also help me achieve higher managerial
posts within the next 2-4 years, with a definite source of better income.

Thereby, I hope my application to University of South Florida for pursuing a degree in Master of Business
Administration (MBA) would be accepted, and I will be given the opportunity to become one of its successful USF
graduates.
