LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET NO. 1

Apply the Principles of Research Design

Name: Tisha D. Villanueva Strand and Section: 12 STEM-A Remarks_________

Learning Competency
1. Apply the principles of research design (SSP_RS8-RD-III-m-n-14).
2. Make a valid experiment design.

Activity Proper

Activity 3.1.1: What’s My Principle?

Objective: Apply the principles of a research design.

Situation 1

Principle: The given situation used Replication Principle to test the

vertical strength of glass-impregnated concrete tiles and commercial ceramic
tiles.

Reason: The given situation used Replication as a research design

principle because each independent variable, glass-impregnated concrete
tiles and commercial ceramic tiles, has ten replicates.

Situation 2

Principle: The given situation used Randomization principle to test the

water resistance, heat resistance, and fire resistance of 15 samples 2x3 size
cement bonded board.

Reason: Randomization was utilized as a study design principle

because 15 water is tested on random samples of cement bonded board that
are 2x3 in size. Five board portions are assigned to resistance, heat
resistance, and fire resistance for each of the three testing groups.

Situation 3

Principle: The supplied statement employed the Local Control

Principle to display attributes such as age, gender, height, weight, and so
on, as well as to test conditions such as ph, gradient, salinity, substance
amount, and so on.

Reason: It employed Local Control as a principle since the

experimental units are the same in terms of age, gender, height, weight, and
other characteristics, as well as test settings such as ph, gradient, salinity,
amount of material.

Situation 4

Principle: The given situation used randomization to generate simple

random of five students in a class.

[JOSECARELJONDONERO][JOSECARELJONDONERO][JOSECARELJONDONERO][JOSECARELJONDONERO

Reason: It used randomization as a research design principle for the

reason that it generates five students in the class in proportion to the
number of ratio of males and females in the classroom.

Situation 5

Principle: The given situation used local control to test the efficacy of
chlorhexidine mouthwash on the prevention of ventilator associated
phenomena (VAP) among patients admitted to the ICU’s

Reason: The local control was utilized as a research design principle

in this experiment because the researcher manipulated (controlled) the
control group in order to examine the efficacy of chlorhexidine mouthwash
on the prevention of ventilator associated phenomena (VAP) among patients
admitted to ICUs.

Process Questions

1. What particular experimental design is suitable for your experiment?

 Simple random sampling design is the experimental design is suitable
for our experiment.

2. How are you going to group your samples to their treatments? Use a
diagram/illustration to demonstrate the groupings of your samples to
their treatments?

3. What statistical tools are you going to use to compare your data?
Why?
 In our study, there is no comparison between samples. Since we
are using sensory evaluation in our study, the best tool to use is a
survey form that provides rating to the acceptability of our product.

4. How do the principles of a research design help you in making your

experimental design?
 The research design principle aids in identifying and guiding the
path of observation and analysis. For example, if the study's
research principle is local group, the completely randomized
experimental design is the most precise and accurate way to obtain
