QUESTIONS

1. Discuss in brief'short te1m' and 'long term' deflections ofR.C.beams.

2. List the factors influencing deflections ofR.C.beams.
3. A rectangular simply supported beam ofclear span 4.5m is 300x500mm in cross section.
It is reinforced with 4 bars of 20mm diameter . M20concrete and Fe 415 steel are used .
The effective cover is 40mm.Taking super imposed live load as 25kN/m and dead load as
15kN/m, calculate the short term and long term deflections ofthe beam.
4. A simply supported T-beam has the following data:
(i) Effective width offlange =1500mm
(ii) Thickness of flange=130mm
(iii) Width ofrib=250mm
(iv) Effective depth=500mm
· (v) Effective span=6m
It is reinforced with 4bars of 25mm. The grade ofconcrete is M20and the grade ofsteel
is Fe 415.
