EXERCISE 1 – ENGLISH TENSES

Translate the following sentences.


Преведите следеће реченице.

Јуче сам први пут попила кафу у Старбаксу.


Yesterday, I drank my first coffee in Starbuks.
Управо сам попила кафу.
I’ve just drunk my coffee.
Ретко пијем кафу.
I rarely drink coffee.
Шта радиш? – Пијем кафу.
What are you doing? – I’m drinking coffee.
Он је попио кафу пре него што си дошао.
He had drunk his coffee before you came.
Он је пио кафу пре него што си дошао.
He had been drinking coffee before you came.
Он је пио кафу кад је она ушла.
He was drinking coffee when she entered.
Он је пио кафу док је она спавала.

Она пије ову кафу још од јутрос.

Шта си радила јуче око 10ч? – Пила сам кафу.

Ко је пио моју кафу?
Who has been drinking my coffee?
Она ће пити кафу до 10ч.
She will be drinking coffee until 10 a.m.
Данас поподне сигурно пијемо кафу.
We are drinking coffee this afternoon.
Сутра поподне ћу вероватно пити кафу са њим.
I’ll (probably) drink coffee with him tomorrow afternoon.
Ема и ја ћемо сутра поподне пити кафу. Договориле смо се.
Ema and I are going to drink coffee tomorrow afternoon.
Она ће попити кафу пре него што изађе.
She will have drunk coffee before she goes out.
Кад год позовем она увек пије кафу! ( и то ме нервира)
Whenever I call, she is always drinking coffee!

EXERCISE 2 – SIMPLE & CONTINUOUS


What is the difference in meaning between the pairs or groups of sentences
below?
Покушајте својим речима да објасните разлику између реченица (на
српском или енглеском, како вам је лакше).

E.g. Everyone’s very nice to me. (изношење чињенице, уобичајеног стања,


карактеристичног стања или особине)
Everyone’s being very nice to me. (тренутно стање, сугерише нешто
неуобичајено или изненађујуће)

- Prva rečenica je u Present Simple-u, i označava neko činjenično stanje -
Osoba je stalno ljubazna.
You` re being very kind.
- U drugoj rečenici je naglasak na sadašnjem trenutku, osoba je trenutno
ljubazna.
I’ll see Luis about it later.
I’ll be seeing Luis about it later.
-Razlika između ove dve rečenice je u tome što je u drugoj rečenici mnogo
izvesnije da ću se videti sa Luisom. U prvoj postoji samo namera, dobra volja
ali ne i plan, sigurnost…

The plane will be landing at Heathrow in 20 minutes. (Why is this structure


used in this situation? How does it make the passengers feel? Why?)
Future Continuous – da se naglasi da će radnja trajati… da će spuštanje
lagano početi I trajati kako bi se putnici opustili...
Konstrukcija - The plane will land ….. mogla bi da izazove paniku, kao da će se
avion spustiti naglo i iznenada

He hit me. On me je udario jednom (u prošlosti)


He was hitting me. Naglasak na trajanju radnje u prošlosti. – Nije ga udario
jednom,nego više puta… udarao ga je…

Who's been drinking my beer? Ko je pio moje pivo (piva još uvek ima)? –
Radnja je počela u prošlosti i traje još uvek; može se i nastaviti (Present
Perfect Cont.)
Who's drunk my beer? Ko je popio moje pivo? –Radnja se završila u
NEPOSREDNOJ prošlosti (piva više nema). (Present Perfect)

Someone has eaten my sweets.


Neko je pojeo moje slatkiše. –Više ih nema. (Present Perfect)
Someone has been eating my sweets.
Neko jede moje slatkiše. – Radnja je počela u prošlosti i traje još uvek; može
se i nastaviti (Present Perfect Cont.)

She died. Radnja se završila u prošlosti. Ona je umrla. (konstatacija)


She was dying. Ona je umirala
Naglasak je na trajanju radnje. Radnja je trajala određeni period u prošlosti.

What do you do? Šta radiš? Misli se na zanimanje, na neko činjenično stanje.
What are you doing? Misli se na trenutno stanje. Šta sada radiš?

What did you do when you cut your finger? Šta si uradio kada si isekao prst?
Želi da zna šta se desilo, šta je uradio NAKON što je isekao prst.
What were you doing when you cut your finger?
Šta si radio PA si isekao prst?

He fired the gun. Radnja u prošlosti koja je trajala kratko i brzo se završila.
He was firing the gun when I saw him. Radnja koja je trajala duži vremenski
period u prošlosti.

I’ve checked my emails and there’s no reply. Proverio sam mejlove i nema
odgovora. Radnja koja se završila u bliskoj prošlosti. REZULTAT u
sadašnjosti: još uvek nema odgovora
I’ve been checking my emails, that’s why I’m late. Proveravao sam mejlove,
zato kasnim. Naglasak je na trajanju radnje. Radnja koja se završila u VEOMA
bliskoj prošlosti, maltene do sad. POSLEDICA u sadašnjosti: zato kasnim

The train leaves in 5 minutes. Obično saopštenje. Voz ide za pet minuta po
rasporedu vožnje.
The train is leaving in 5 minutes!
Naglasak na tome da voz polazi za 5 minuta i da treba da požure da bi stigli na
vreme.

EXERCISE 3 – PERFECT
What is the difference in meaning between the pairs or groups of sentences
below?
Покушајте својим речима да објасните разлику између реченица (на
српском или енглеском, како вам је лакше).

E.g. They’ve been married for 30 years. (они су у браку 30 година и још увек
су браку)
They were married for 30 years. (они су били у браку 30 година али више
нису; могуће да су се развели, да су преминули и сл.)

činjenicu.

When I’ve talked to him, I’ll tell you. Reći ću ti nakon što budem razgovarala sa
njim.
When I talk to him, I’ll tell him. Kada budem pričala sa njim, reći ću mu.

The arrangements will be finalized on Friday. Dogovori će biti finalizovani U


petak.
The arrangements will have been finalized by Friday.
Dogovori će biti finalizovani DO petka. Naglasak na radnji koja će trajati I
završiti se u određenom vremenskom periodu u budućnosti.
Did you ever meet my grandfather? Da li si ikada upoznao mog dedu? Deda
više nije živ.
Have you ever met my grandfather?
Da li si ikada upoznao mog dedu? Deda je i dalje živ. Ako nisi, ima šanse…

I wish I knew the way. Voleo bih da znam put. Odnosi se na sadašnjost.
(Conditional II)
I wish I had known the way. Voleo bih da sam znao put. Odnosi se na prošlost.
(Conditional III)

EXERCISE 4 – PERFECT
Problems with Perfect Tenses:

The sentences below contain common errors that students make with the
perfect tenses in English. Try to correct them and think about why the student
made the error (e.g. language 1 interference, confusion with another tense).
Покушајте да исправите грешке у реченицама и размислите зашто је
студент направио грешку. (нпр. због утицаја матерњег језика; зато
што је одређено време помешао са другим временом – са којим, зашто?
и сл.)

(a) Dinosaurs had died out millions of years ago.

This morning I’m meeting with my friend this morning. (Present Continuos,
ako je jutro tek počelo a ovo je plan); I have met with my friends… (Present
Perfect, ako jutro još traje); I met with my friends… (Past Simple, ako je sada
popodne ili uveče)
Sometimes I sometimes go out. (Present Simple)
Now The children are sleeping now. (Present Continuous)
Lately What have you been doing lately? (Present Perfect Continuous, može i
Present Perfect)
Two days from now I will leave the country two days from now. (Future
Simple, može i Future Cont. i Future Perfect)
Before last week She had joined the club before last week. (Past Perfect)
Before I´m fifty I will have travelled the world before I’m fifty (Future Perfect)

EXERCISE 6

Change the tense to fit the time expression:

Ставите глагол „TALK“ у одговарајуће време водећи раћуна о датој


временској одредби.

Write the correct tense of the verb “TALK”

EXERCISE 7

Разврстајте временсе одредбе у одговарајуће колоне (Present Time, Past


Time, Future Time, Present Perfect).
Неке одредбе могу се свртати у више колона јер, као што можете
приметити. код назива свих колона (сем Present Perfect) стоји Time а не
Tense, како бисте стекли ширу слику о реалном времену и граматичком
времену.
