WHAT I CAN DO
REFLECT UPON
Rocks are all around us. It is used for building materials, cars, roads, and appliances. As a senior
high school student, how can you promote the sustainable development in utilizing these
resources? Give some suggestions.
 As a student and still studying I can promote the sustainable development in utilizing
these resources by informing and educating my friends, colleagues, family to not waste
these essential resources because they are used for buildings, cars, roads and appliances.

Using the Internet, research three rocks of different types (igneous, sedimentary, and
metamorphic) and state their respective economic and medical significance in our present
society.
 Igneous Rocks - The economic importance of such rocks are they are used for tabletops
and carved figures. Some are also utilized as building stones. One medical significance of
igneous rock, Pumice stone is that used in skin clearing.
 Sedimentary Rocks - The major economic importance of such rocks are coal, petroleum,
cement and clay in various types of works. Sedimentary limestone is purified and as
CaCO3 and used as antacid tablets.
 Metamorphic rocks - The economic importance of such rocks are they are used for
building construction, tiles etc. Some types of rocks are known to be used to make
medical instruments.
