LEARNING Explains why there is a breakdown of communication. (EN11/12OC-Ia-5)
COMPETENCY: Learning Objectives:
 Define the concept of communication breakdown;
 Identify the different kinds of barriers to effective communication;
 Explain the causes of communication breakdown.

Context, PowerPoint Presentation, Chalkboard, Printed Worksheets and
learning materials
LEARNING DELIVERY Activity:
MODE: Implementation of the following routinary activities:
 Prayer
 Checking Attendance
 Greetings
 Classroom Management

Have the teacher facilitate a 5-minute reading session for the learners. Let
them read a conversation about communication breakdowns. After reading
the conversation, have them answer the given comprehension questions .
Analysis:

Review of the previous lesson (Models of communication)


Let the learners determine if they have background knowledge about the
topic. Instruct the learners to answer the activity (refer to page 5 of the
SLM). Let them identify the reasons for the communication breakdown in
each picture.

Abstraction:
Let the teacher discusses the Barriers to communication on page 5-6 of the
SLM.
Instruct the learners to examine the given examples of each kind of barrier
to communication.
Facilitate the learner’s comprehension through a question and answer
session about the communication barriers.
Application: Let the learners accomplish the following tasks.
Activity 1
Directions: Identify the kind of communication barrier exemplified by each
description. Tell whether it is Physiological, Psychological, Cultural, or
Linguistic Barrier.

Activity 2
Directions: Explain why there is communication breakdown on the given
situations.

(refer to page 8 of the SLM)

ASSESSMENT
Instruct the learners to answer the GAUGE part of the Self-Learning
Module on pages 10-11.
