Origami Design

Problem
1- The scarcity of studies which deal with the connection between the ceramic product design and the
art of origami; and the extent to which it can be utilized in the design process.
2- The traditional methods of designing prototypes and initial ideas consume time and effort and require
skill to express the idea clearly and forcefully; which represents an obstacle to the designer in conveying
their ideas.
Objectives:
1- To develop a methodology to design the ceramic product through the rules of origami.
2- To use the potentials of other materials to rapidly form and develop the prototype of the ceramic
product design.
Hypotheses
1- There is a connection between the design fundamentals and the rules of origami art.
2- The more the designer is proficient in utilizing the available tools in expressing their ideas easily and
skillfully; the more scope they shall have for creativity and improvement.
research significance:
1- Continuous development in the design education methodology requires continuous development in
the designer's tools.
2- Fluency - the ability to produce a large number of diverse ideas - is one of the criteria for assessing the
designer's creativity. From this point of view; Origami is considered one of the best methods to produce
the designer's initial ideas quickly and flexibly.
Methodology
- Analytical method
- Applied method
Aspects
1- The concept and history of origami.
2- Origami rules and design fundamentals.
3- Origami design.
4- Origami and a Ceramic product design methodology.
Keywords: origami, ceramic design, design methodology
introduction:
The basics of design in the two-dimensional or three-dimensional form play an important role in the
design of ceramic products. The nature of the functions needed by tableware, for example, are
functional surfaces and cavities that can appear in a great variety by moving from the two-dimensional
shape to the three-dimensional (semi-stereoscopic) , as shown through the processes of changing the
shape, which is an important part of the basics of design, and converge here the basics of design with
the rules of the art of origami (origami), which is the transformation of flat paper through folding
techniques into three-dimensional models, a technique based on logical and computational thinking and
principles of design basics That draws the approach to change
and relationships and leads to the creation of new forms.
