STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE TEST PROCEDURE FOR LADDERS STRENGTH TESTING Doe No: $A.QA-SOP.03 Revision No:03 | fective date: 2¢-un-2016 Paget of 10 20 30 50 54 52 53 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 7A Purpose Establish and maintain a procedure for testing the strength ofthe ladder as per the applicable standards. Scope This procedure is applicable to all types of portable and fixed ladders viz.. Wind ladders, Domestic and Commercial Ladders. Responsibil Conducting the tests - Quality Supervisors! Quality Head. Approval of Test Results - Quality Head ‘Terms and Definitions Ladder - Device incorporating steps or rungs on which a person may ascend or descend. (Note: Step stools are explicitly excluded from this definition. Following test conditions shall be complied with 2) The ladder shall be placed horizontally on supports situated 200 mm from each end ofthe ladder. ') The supports shall be cylindrical wit diameters between 25 mm and 100 mm and one shal be free to rotate the other shal be fixed ©) The test load shall be slowly applied inthe middle ofthe ladder equally o both sties over a width of 100 mm wii it has tobe taken care that an applying by jerks is avoided. The tests conducted as per DIN EN 131-2 standard shall be performed on one ladder and in the order as listed betow: Test 1 Strength test of sties Test 2 Bending testo sles Test 3— Lateral deflection test ofthe ladder Test 4—Bottom stile end test Test 5 — Vertical load on rungs, steps and platforms Test 6 — Torsion test fr rungs and steps ‘Strength test of stiles Test shall be catied out on a complete ladder and, in the case of extending ladders and sectional ladders, withthe ladder fully extended, As such tes piece shal be of the same size as per the design specication. The ladder shall be rested on the Test Rig on the supports with one end fixed and the other end free as shown in the Fig 1 below: y 1: Strength Test of Stiles T Prepared by: Qe : Approved by: Kye _ Date 24-Jun-2016 Date: 24-1un2046 CONTROLLED cory STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE TEST PROCEDURE FOR LADDERS STRENGTH TESTING Se ee ee [Pana 853 Ensure that on both ends, the test ladder has an overhanging length of 200mm, 8.5.4 Place the loading bar in the middle of the ladder and on ‘both the stiles covering the width of the stiles fully. Load shall be applied in the middle of the loading bar with the plunger connector attached with a base plate: ‘of width 50mm and length 100mm. 855 Ensure thatthe dal gauges ae in contac with the sts. Note the intial reaing ofthe da! gauges. 8.5.6 Apply a preload of 500 N (or 50Kg) load for one minute: using the stop watch. Remove the load, wait for one minute and note the-reading in the dial gauge. The position of the ladder after removal of this load shall be taken as the datum for measurement. 85.7 — Now apply the test load of 1100N (or +110Kg) for one minute using the stop watch. Wait for one minute after removal of load and then take the reading in dial gauge. 85.8 Difference between datum reading and the fnal reading gives the actual permanent deflection of he ladder. 85 Acceptable Limits: 86.1 The permanent deformation of the ladder should be less than 0.1% of distance between the supports (/ a tf) For standing ladders the test load F shall be determined by the equation F=2600N x cosa ‘where ct, = manufacturer's designed angle of use. (Permitted angle: min 60°, max. 70°). 87 Reporting of Test Results: 8.7.1 Update the test details in ladder testing log book. 87.2 Report the test results in the Ladder Test Report 87.3 Imespective of test results, test report shall have the actual loads applied, time and deflection observed as per the test procedure mentioned above. 80 Records 81 Ladder Testing Log Book 92 Ladder Test Report > 5 Preparedby: (ga v Approves by Mee Daten 8 Dae: 2 nas a CONTROLLED COPY
