(Note: Step stools are explicily excluded from this definition, (Ref DIN EN 131-1), Reference Standards EN ISO 1412-4: Safety of Machinery, permanent means of access machinery Part 4 — Fixed Ladder DIN EN 131-2: Ladders — Requirements, testing, marking DIN EN 131-1 : Ladders ~ Terminology, types, functional sizes Test Equipment Required Test Fixture Loading Bare with clamp Bevel Protractor Inotinometer Standard Weights ‘Stop watch Test Frequency (One in 1000 ladders Prepared by: & i Date:24iun 2015 | Approved by Kye [ Date: 26 Jun 2016 CONTROLLED COPY A STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE | ) ee TING PROCEDURE __| TEST PROCEDURE FOR TORSION TEST FOR RUNGS AND STEPS Doe No: §4.04-SOF08 Revision No:02 | fective date: 24un2046 [Paye203 | 80 Methodology 8.1 Before stating the tests, ensure that the measuring gauges to be used have valid calibration and don't have any errors. 8.2 Uncertainty of Measurement shall be ensured as below: + 1 mm for longitudinal measurements; + 5:mmfor the measurement of the distance between the supports and the overhanging length; + 1° forthe measurement of angles; +1 % for static forces and torque. 8.3 The tests conducted as per DIN EN 131-2 standard shall be performed on one ladder and inthe order as listed below: Test 1 ~ Strength test of stiles Test 2—Bending test of stiles Test 3 ~ Lateral deflection test ofthe ladder ‘Test 4 —Bottom stile end test Test 5 — Vertical lad on rungs, steps and platforms Test 6 - Torsion fest for rungs and steps Ensure that before conducting the torsion test for rungs, strength test of stile, bending test of stiles, lateral deflection test, bottom stile ends test and vertical load on rungs! steps and platforms must have been ‘conducted on the test sample in that order: 85 Torsion Test for Rungs and steps 85.1 The ladder shall be placed in standing/ vertical poston or positioned a8 in use as given in ig 4 below with the help of test fiture. 85.2 Test shallbe conducted on weakest rung ofthe ladder of any design. 883 Place the Loading Ber with clamp atthe centr ofthe rung or step. 854 A torque M of 50 Nm (see Figure 17) shal be applied on the midpoint of he rung or step via @ 100 mm wide clamping device, The torque shall be applied alternately 10 times in clockwise and 10 times in counter clockwise direction for a period of 10s each, 855 During testing there shall be no relative movement inthe connection between stle and rungstep eae Fig 1: Test Method for Bending Test for Rungs and steps Prepared by: 7 ‘Approved by: Cc | Date26 in 206 Date:24.i0 2016 CONTROLLED COPY STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE 5 TEST PROCEDURE FOR TORSION TEST FOR RUNGS AND STEPS | Doc No: &-08 $0.08 Revision No:02 | Elective date: 24,un2015 | Pages o's 856 The angle of deflection is the difference between the above two measured values 857 Check for any relative movement between ste and rung, 86 Acceptable Limits: 86.1 The acceptable maximum iit (fn) - Ate the test @ permanent deformation shall be 1° at maximum with a tolerance of 0,2°, 862 883. Norelative movement between stl and rung 87 Reporting of Test Results: 8.7.1 Update the test details in ladder testing log book 87.2 Report the test results inthe Ladder Test Report 87.3.
