Doc No: SACA-SOP.40 Revision No: 00 | Effective date: ui 2016, Page 203
8.0 Methodology
8.1 Before starting the tests, ensure that the measuring gauges to be used have valid calibration and don't
have any errors,
8.2 Uncertainty of Measurement shall be ensured as below:
+ 1 mm for longitudinal measurements;
+ 5 mm/for the measurement of the distance between the supports and the overhanging length;
+£ 1° forthe measurement of angles;
£1 % for static forces and torque.
8.3 The tests conducted as per DIN EN 131-2 standard shall be performed on one ladder and in the order as
listed below:
Test 1 ~ Strength test of stiles
Test 2—Bending test of stiles
Test 3 -Lateral deflection test ofthe ladder
Test 4 ~Bottom stile end test
‘Test 5 - Vertical load on rungs, steps and platforms
‘Test 6 ~ Torsion test for rungs and steps
Test 7 ~ Torsion test on ladder length
84 Ensure that before conducting the torsion test on ladder length, strength test of stle, bending test of stiles,
lateral deflection test, bottom stile ends test, vertical load on rungs! steps and platforms and Torsion test
{or rungs and steps must have been conducted on the test sample in that order:
85 Torsion on Ladder length
85.1 The test ladder base section supported over a 2000 mm test span except that if the ladder base section
(ascendable part ofthe ladder) is less then 2000 mm then the maximum possible test span shall be used.
85.2 Place the ladder in a fat horizontal poston and suppor it at each end, as shown in Fig 2, withthe bottom
rung diectly above the pivotal support
85.3 The distance between the pivot point centre and the plane of the centre line ofthe rungs or sleps shall be
not more than 60 mm. Apply a preload torque of 65 Nm gently and then remove, The residual angle of
Pivotal suppor shall be noted as datum position to establish a reference for angular deflection. Apply atest
torque of 130 Nm in the same direction as the preload by ether using a torque wrench, Measure the angle
Of twist from the datum positon. Apply a second load of the same torque as the preload inthe opposite
direction and then remove, The residual angle of pivotal support shall be nated as datum positon. Apply a
second tes load in the opposite direction to the fst est load,
85.4 Measure the angle of twist from the second datum positon.
