Responsibilities ‘Conducting the tests - Qualty Supervisors/ Quality Head. ‘Approval of Test Result - Quality Head ‘Terms and Definitions Ladder ~ Device incorporating steps or rungs on which a person may ascend or descend. (Note: Step Stools are explicitly excluded from this definition. 'b) The supports shall be cylindrical with diameters between 25mm and 100 mm and one shall be {ree to rotate the other shall be fixed. ©) The test load shall be slowly applied in the middle of the ladder equally to both stiles over @ width of 100 mm while it has to be taken care that an applying by jerks is avoided. ‘The tests conducted as per DIN EN 131-2 standard shall be performed on one ladder and in the order as listed below: Test 1 - Strength test of stiles Test 2— Bending test of stiles Test 3~ Lateral defection test ofthe adder Test 4 ~ Bottom stile end test Test 5 - Vertical load on rungs, steps and platforms Test 6 ~ Torsion test for rungs and steps Test 7- Torsion test on the ladder length Ensure that before conducting the bending test, stength test must have been conducted on the test sample: Bending test Test shall be carried out on a complete ladder and, inthe case of extending ladders and sectional adders, withthe ladder fully extended. t shall be carried out with the supporting section removed unless this is Permanently fixed to the ladder. As such test piece shall be of the same size as per the design specications. ‘The ladder shall be rested on the load Test Rig on the supports with one end fixed and the other end free as shown in the Fig 1 below: $ Prepaedty: a. - mont (RO Date: un 2016 Date: 26.1n2076 STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE TEST PROCEDURE FOR LADDERS BENDING TEST | [Dec No: SAA S0P-0¢ Revision No: 02 | Effective date: 2¢Jun 2016 Page3of3 863 864 865 866 867 868 869 86.10 87 874 88 881 882 883 3.0 94 92 Fig 1: Bonding Test Test shall be performed inthe direction of use ofthe ladder. the ladder is ascendable from both he sides, the test shal be performed in the east favorable ection Ensure that on both ends, test ladder has an overhanging length of 200mm, Place the loading bar in the middle of the ladder and on both the sles covering the width ofthe stiles ful Load shall be applied inthe middle of the loading bar withthe plunger connector attached with a base plate (of width SOmm and length 100mm, Ensure that the dal gauges are in contact withthe stiles Note the ital reading ofthe dial gauges or take reading by stee! scale Apply preload of 100 N (or 10Ka) load for one minute using the stop watch. Remove the load, wait for one ‘minute and note the reading in the dal gauge. The postion of the ladder after removal of his load shal be taken as the datum for measurement. ‘Then again apply the test load of 750N (or 75Kg) for one minute. Take the reading in cial gauge under the oad. Difference between datum reading and the final reading gives the actual bending deflection ofthe ladder. Acceptable Limits: The acceptable maximum limit (ha) for bending deflection as a function of distance between the supports () shall be calculated as below fra = 5x (x 108, in mm for ladders up to 5m in length, {ns = 0.043 x() - 90, in mm for ladders over 5m but not exceeding 12m in length, fn = 0.08 x () ~ 294, in mm for ladders over 12m in length.
