Assignment 2 - Cultural Concepts

Due Date: Due in class in Week 8 (5-9 Dec 2022) – by 5pm on the day of your CCPFP lesson*

You have been taught the following cultural concepts in CCPFP lessons and in this assignment, you are
required to apply them:
1. Individualism vs Collectivism
2. Monochronic vs Polychronic (concept of time)
3. High Context vs Low Context

Over 7000 Multi-National Corporations (MNCs) from various countries have invested in Singapore. Here is a
sample list:
1. Bosch – German-based company specializing in the automotive technology industry, industrial
and building technology and consumer goods
2. Tencent – Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate
3. Samsung – South Korean company that is one of the world’s largest producers of electronic
devices
4. CIC – French-based financial services company
5. Sony Corporation – Japanese-based consumer electronics, gaming, entertainment and financial
services company
6. Philips – Netherlands-based consumer electronics, healthcare and lighting company
7. Xero – New Zealand-based cloud-based accounting software for SMEs
8. Roche – Switzerland-based high-end software and security engineering company
9. Apple – American multinational technology company that specializes in consumer electronics,
software and online services
10. Genting – Malaysian company involved in leisure and hospitality, oil palm plantations, property
development, life sciences and biotechnology activities.

Select one of the above MNCs and answer the following questions, providing rationale and examples for your
answer.

Question 3 (10 marks) (200 to 250 words)


Imagine you have successfully secured an internship with your chosen MNC and would be going to the
MNC home base country for attachment. You will be staying with a host family during the internship. For
example, you will be going to China for an internship with the Tencent conglomerate and staying with a
Chinese family. How would you address the two differences or similarities cited in Question 2 during your
home stay with your host family or at the workplace with colleagues? You can quote everyday situations
such as having meals, social outings, communication and discussions (2 (differences or similarities) X 5
marks = 10 marks).

8. Late submission LATE Submission penalty:
