B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity: Act and Interact!

“Let us have an activity first before we will proceed to

our discussion. I will divide the class into two groups.
Please read the instruction”.

Instruction: Make a scenario that shows human

interactions and relationships. All of you will be given 5
minutes to do the activity. Present your output
creatively. Your group performance will be scored based
on the following rubric.

Holistic Rubric:
Content 50%
Presentation 25%
Cooperation 25%

“Do you have any questions?” All: “None Ma’am.”

(Students will make a scenario that shows human
interactions and relationships and present it in front of
the class.)
Okay, you may now start. (Students present their output in front of the class.)

2. Analysis

“What are the key points that you got from the activity
that you did earlier?” Student 1: “Based on what we did earlier Ma’am,
interpersonal relations need to have a genuine interaction
towards other to have a good and meaningful
relationship.”
“Very Good! To have an authentic relationship to one
another you need to accept one’s differences and
uniqueness.”

“As a student, how can you relate to the scenario that

you act from the activity?” Student 2: “As a student I can relate myself to the
scenario by experiencing it in my everyday living with my
family, classmates and friends.”
“Intelligent! Thank you for your answer.”

3. Abstraction: Visual Aids

“Now, based on what we did earlier, what would be our

topic for today’s discussion?” Student 3: “Based on what we did earlier Ma’am, our
topic for today’s discussion is all about human
interactions.”
“Very Good!”

(Teacher present POP-UP pictures to the class)

Take a look at the following pictures and try to describe
the relationship between the family members. Which of
these situations do you prefer? Student 4: “The first picture shows a family that are busy
with their different works while the second picture shows
a family that talking to each other and listening to each
other. For me, I prefer the second picture because it
shows a family that has a harmonious relationship
between the family members.
“Excellent idea!”
“How do we as a human person relate with others?” Student 1: “We relate to each other through meaningful
interactions.”
“Intelligent! Before we begin to relate with others, we
must first be aware of ourselves as rational individuals
capable of determined and reasonable action.”

“Now take a moment to look at your seatmate. Are you

aware his/her existence?” Student 2: “Yes Ma’am.”

“Okay, the answer is yes, since you can perceive your

seatmate through your senses. Your classmate is the
other, or a being that exist outside of yourself.”

“What drives human persons to interact with their

fellow humans in a more meaningful way?” Student 1: “Our human nature not only enables us to
recognize the self that defines individuality; it also enables
us to recognize that other human beings possess a self.”
Excellent idea! We are able to relate with other human
beings because we consider ourselves essentially the
same. This notion of recognizing the self in the other is
how philosopher define interpersonal relations.

“What is intersubjectivity? Please read.” Student 5: “Intersubjectivity is a unique relationship

between distinct subjects.”
“Okay. What does it mean? Any idea?” Student 6: “It is a harmonious relationship towards
others.”
“Very Good! Intersubjectivity is a unique relationship
between distinct subjects. It also refers to the
characteristic of the human person to engage in a very
intimate and personal relationship with others who are
different from him or her but who are also like him or
her.”

“What are the various level of self-other relationship

that are identified by the Philosophers? Please read the
first level.” Student 7: “The first level is, Simple awareness of the
existence of the other.”

“What do you mean by that?” “It is when we are aware that the other people exist.”

“Excellent idea! It is when you are aware that the other

people exist like for example when you are at home you
can see your family members and you are aware that
they exist. Also, when you go outside you are also aware
that the other people exist.”

How about the second level? Please explain.” Student 8: “The second level is, Simple awareness of the
self as being seen by others. It is the interaction between
the self and the other.”
“Intelligent! Like for example when someone suddenly
stares at you, you are immediately aware that the action
is made by another and these other is staring and
looking at you, the other is also aware of you as a
person.”

“How about the last level? Kindly read and explain

student 9.” Student 9: “The third level is, Awareness of the self and
the other. It is when we act depending on how we want to
present ourselves to people.”
Excellent idea! The way we act with people is influenced
by our ideas of how these people see us. For example,
we act as an obedient student in the class and the
teacher assume that you are really an obedient child on
the people whom you are with. You act differently when
you’re with your family’s and with your friends.

What is seeming? Can you read student 10? Student 10: “It is where an individual presents himself or
herself in a certain way when dealing with others.”
“Okay, thank you. For example, the reason why they
have some ideas or perceptions of who you are because
of what you have shown to them. These actions referred
to as a Seeming”.

What is dialogue? Student 11: Dialogue is an interaction between persons

that happens through speech or the use of words,
expressions and body language.”

What do you mean by that? “It occurs when two persons open up to each other and
give and receive one another in their encounter.”

“Yes! Thank you for that excellent idea. Dialogue, is a

genuine human interaction. This is made possible when
the self realizes that the other is a genuine and unique
individual. It is also a means by which persons are able to
share in each other’s lives.

“How to attain an authentic relationship to one

another?” Student 12: “To have an authentic relationship to one
another is to accept one’s differences and uniqueness and
not imposing on others.”
Very good! When two individuals begin to view each
other as another, acknowledging each other’s presence
and recognizing one’s differences through these you can
attain authentic relationship. Also, the awareness of the
existence of the other and you perceive these other as
the same as you; having also the dignity and the value as
you have, then that’s the time that you’ll begin to have
an authentic relationship to one another.

“Now, did you understand our discussion for this

afternoon?” All: “Yes Ma’am.”

4. Application: Lights Camera Action!

Instruction: With the same group that you have make a

scenario that shows intersubjectivity in a form of Radio
Broadcasting and a Talk Show and present it in front of
the class. Each group will be given 3 minutes for the
preparation and 2 minutes for the presentation.

Group 1: Radio Broadcasting

Group 2: Talk Show

“Your group performance will be scored based on the

following rubric.”

Holistic Rubric:
Content 50%
Presentation 25%
Cooperation 25%

“Do you have any questions?” All: “None, Ma’am.”

(Students will discuss about their activity and plan on how

to perform it in front of the class.)

“Okay, you may now start.” (Students will perform their task in front of the class.)
“Let’s all give a round of applause to the presenters.”

“Now, I will give you time to ask what are the things that
are not clear to you about our topic this morning.” All: “None Ma’am.”

Since you have no questions from our topic then I will be

going to ask you a question.
“As a student, how do you establish a meaningful
interaction with others?” Student 2: As a student we need to maintain good
relations towards others by understanding and
recognizing one’s differences and uniqueness.
“Excellent idea!”

“Why is intersubjectivity important in our lives?” Student 3: “It is important in our lives to have a genuine
interaction towards other to have a good and meaningful
relationships. In order to avoid conflict, intersubjectivity
start from ourselves and not to impose on others.”

Did you learn from our discussion? All: “Yes Ma’am.”

Do you have any questions? All: “None Ma’am.”
“Anyone?... None? Okay if none please get 1/2 sheet of
paper.”

IV. Evaluation

Instruction: In your 1/2 sheet of paper (crosswise). Write

an essay about your realizations in intersubjectivity.
(Students write their different realizations from the topic.)

“All done?” All: “Yes Ma’am.”

“Please pass your paper in front without making any

noise.” (Students pass their papers in front.)

“That ends our discussion for today.”

“Goodbye class!” “Goodbye ma’am. Thank you for teaching us! God bless.”
